Stefan Weise, originally from Italy & Germany now based in Colorado, has been DJing and producing for over 20 years. Stefan grew up listening to early underground electronic music, Funk, Soul, Motown, Disco and Acid House. His music is heavily influenced by Detroit and Amsterdam Techno, Scifi concepts and Science. Stefan has been the host of the monthly “Blue Industries” show on Proton radio since 2005. In 2017, Stefan started 3km Records. 2020 saw the Techno veteran and co-founder Jimmer Freer launched the vinyl label ‘Science Cult’ out of a desire to deliver tangible music manufactured to a higher quality standard.  Stefan takes us into the studio where he does his work, and highlight 5 of his favorite ‘essential’ pieces of gear!

“My wife and I built my Studio in the basement of our house. It’s a room-within-a-room construction that I designed with the help of a studio builder forum. I designed and built most of the furniture and racks myself. My kid has lovingly adorned the walls with her artwork :-)”

1. Roland R-05 Digital Recorder

Given to me as a Birthday present many years ago by my best friend, arguable my most important piece of gear. Used mainly for capturing ideas and vocals, I also take it on travels for field recordings. I also really love using it with my EMF mics.

2. Macbook Pro

Very powerful and versatile. I love the ability to always have a studio on the go. Sometimes I just like to sit in the living room and sketch out ideas and then I bring them down here to develop them further.

3. DFAM & Modular

I actually built my Modular around the DFAM just to expand it further. I absolutely LOVE this synth. It has endless possibilities and just an amazing sound.

4. Turntables

I’ve been DJing since I was 17 and it’s always been very therapeutic for me. There’s nothing like getting lost in a mix for a few hours to relieve stress or even cure a headache. Also visible are the OB-12, a crazy and heavy beast with amazing sounds and tons of books and comics.

5. Dangerous Music 2-Bus LT

I really enjoy spending time on my mix-downs to get everything nice and balanced and this has been an invaluable tool for me. It really glues a mix together and gives everything much needed warmth.

Turn it up & enjoy!
