Sydney-based pairing Bohm have returned to Australian label UGENIUS with their latest EP, ‘Hear The Noise’, adding to their growing sound that merges melodic house and techno with indie dance and afro house. Following 2023’s label debut ‘Digital Awakening’ and their remix of ‘You’ by Ark Nomads & MESH, this EP adds to further releases on Einmusika, SPECIES and Act7 and showcases their ability to channel dancefloor energy and emotional depth.

The two-tracker delivers contrasting tracks that balance the duos sound perfectly, with the title track ‘Hear The Noise’ bringing a driving and soaring synth-driven anthem for the peak time, while ‘Back To The Wall’ offers hypnotic percussion and layered melodies to deliver an immersive late night trip. Following the release, we quickly caught up with the pair to dive into the themes and influences behind their latest project…

The two tracks on the release offer contrasting moods and sounds, tell us a little more about how each track was made?
‘Hear The Noise’ came to life during a late-night studio session inspired by the energy of our marathon/extended DJ sets. We wanted to create something that embodied the pure physicality of the dance floor—where the bassline doesn’t just fill the room but shakes it to its core. The concept was about capturing that primal connection between music and movement, where sound becomes a shared experience. The chunky, driving bassline was the first element we built, and from there, the track almost wrote itself. Every percussive hit and synth stab was carefully crafted to amplify the sense of urgency and rising energy. For us, it’s a celebration of those unspoken moments on the dance floor, where the noise becomes a unifying force. It’s bold, unapologetic, and made to make people lose themselves in the music.

‘Back To The Wall’ was born from a very different space—both sonically and emotionally. It started with a groove that we had been experimenting with for weeks, something a little more soulful but still rooted in the driving energy of the club. The track draws on the feeling of resilience and determination reflected in its title. There’s a certain intimacy to it, a conversation between the rhythm and melody as if the track is telling you to keep moving forward no matter what. We leaned into a housier vibe for this one, layering chords, hypnotic percussion, and subtle builds to give it that uplifting yet grounded energy. It’s the kind of track we imagine people vibing to, with its warmth and depth wrapping around the crowd as the day/night transitions into something greater!

The release sees you return to UGENIUS; what is it about the label that makes it such a good home for your music?
UGENIUS just gets us. From the start, they’ve been about championing music that’s fresh, dynamic, and that speaks to the dance floor, and that’s exactly what we aim to create. What makes them stand out is the balance they strike: they give us complete freedom to experiment and push boundaries, but they also have this incredible ability to push our sound and connect it with the right audience. They’re not just chasing trends—they’re about music that leaves a lasting impression. Coming back to UGENIUS feels effortless; it’s a label that truly understands who we are and helps us grow into better versions of ourselves.

The release rounds out 2024 following releases on Einmusika, SPECIES and more. What should we be looking out for in 2025?
The years not done for us, we have a release on Perspective Digital on 27 December. A remix for Prosmode & Solvane on Ritter Butzke in January. Overall, in 2025, there’s a lot to look forward to! We’ve been constantly at work, and while we have quite a few tracks currently with some of the top labels, we need to stay tight-lipped about the details for now. What we can share is our excitement about some incredible collaborations in the pipeline. We’ve had the pleasure of working with amazing artists like Script, Mila Journee, Ark Nomads, The Journey, and Like Mike, to name just a few. Next year is shaping up to be an exciting chapter!
