The last single before an album drops carries a particular pressure. It has to close the argument the previous releases opened. »Joy« does not struggle with that. It answers the question in the title: what do you do when you don’t know what to do and the answer turns out to be: this.
Sven Fröhlich has always been one half of Monkey Safari. On »Joy«, he steps out under his DJ Island alias and the shift is not cosmetic. DJ Island is a different register: more House, more dancefloor-forward, operating with the instincts of someone who has spent years reading rooms and understanding exactly what a crowd needs at any given moment.
It’s is a house track with gospel running through it, not as a reference or a texture, but as the actual emotional engine of the record. The groove is tight, physical, and built to last four hours into a set. The gospel elements do not slow that down. They raise it. There is a reason the best house music and the best church music both work on the same principle: get the body moving first, and the rest follows.
