Fast-rising French group, Astral Bakers, is making waves with their latest single, a magnetic blend of dirty shimmering musicality and poignant lyrics that flow forth almost involuntarily. The release of their much-awaited album, “The Whole Story” marks a pivotal moment for the highly experienced collective, serving as their calling card to the world.

Described as a tale of inevitability, Astral Bakers’ acoustic rock, tinged with soft grunge, unfolds that resonate between the realms of Big Thief, Supertramp and an unplugged Nirvana show. However, labels pale in significance compared to the elemental substance that defines their sound.

Composed of Sage, Theodora, Nico Lockhart and Zoé Hochberg, the band boasts a decade-long history of collaboration, having worked with diverse artists like Woodkid and French Grammy winners Clara Luciani, November Ultra and Pomme. Masters of studio arrangement and live performance, Astral Bakers share a collective vision – seeking epiphanies, fostering presence and embracing purity and friendship.

In “I Don’t Remember”, Astral Bakers weaves catchy singalong melodies, uplifting chord progressions and piercing lead guitar lines, all concealing an underlying anguish beneath a smile-y facade. Previous releases like “Shelter” showcase their diverse influences, from Beach Boys-era rock ‘n’ roll to indie-folk stylings. An electric guitar solo shines in “Something New”, while “Why” explores an indie-folk style. The album concludes with “The Whole Story”, boasting energetic guitar, dynamic drums and intricate layered vocals.

Their founding experience at Paris venue Le Consulat triggered a desire to return to their roots, to be reborn as elements – water, fire, air and wind. Eschewing the complexities of demos and production, they embraced the simplicity of two guitars in synergy, bass consolidating the beat, and drums enveloping the composition.

Astral Bakers is set to hit the road with a headline show in Paris at La Maroquinerie next year, offering audiences a taste of their enthralling live performances. The band is part of Spotify’s Global Radar Program and have their first upcoming international gig at Eurosonic on January 19th. The anticipation builds as their debut album, slated for release in early 2024, promises to further solidify their place in the indie music scene.
