Ah, yes, here we have something special! If you where to ask me which current label has been consistently delivering the goods and topping my charts all year, there’d be no hesitation on my part to name Better Listen Records as one such label. Founded a mere 12 months ago and based in Washington D.C., the BLR camp set the bar high with there fresh and exciting A&R, exquisite artwork and overall immaculate presentation. Previously bringing such talents as The Last Trip To Ghandar and Dorsi Plantar to the spotlight, Better Listen tap yet another up-and-comer for their sixth 12″, Stockholm based producer, Ari Bald.

Having made waves under the alias of Klubbhuset alongside co-producer, Egil Kahlbom, the pair have found favor with another stateside label, Jacques Renault’s heavily lauded imprint, Let’s Play House. Here, Ari Bald, nee’ Artur Brändström, steps out on his own with a brilliant 4-tracker in the form of his “Moonshiner EP” which features a quartet of dusty, sample-based house tracks aimed squarely at the dancefloor.

For our premiere, we take a closer look at the EP’s title track, a groovy, looped-out affair that takes one of Frankie Beverley’s silkiest slow jams and transforms it into a bumpin’ club track. Chunky guitar riffs, mono-synths and soulful vocals pepper the framework of thumping, 909 percussion and recall the halcyon days of French House.
