Welcome to Music is 4 Lovers! Thanks for joining us today. How’s your summer been?
Hey there! Summer’s been very relaxing, calm, and I’m finally starting to feel ready and inspired for the next leg of my musical journey.
Congrats on your recent ‘Fantasy’ collaboration with Silva Bumpa. How did you first link up?
We linked up, tbh, thanks to the foresight my manager has, she put us in touch, a bit similar to how she aligned me with Prospa the year prior. Then when he and I met, it was an easy synergy of melodies and soulful ideas.
What was the studio process like between you two? Did the track come together pretty naturally, or was it more of a back-and-forth?
Haha, funny question. It was written with 1-2 other ideas in a 3-4 hour session, but then something happened to the original recording, so then there was tons of back-and-forth, not to write the song, but to recreate that same energy from the first session, which we were audibly married to.
The response to ‘Fantasy’ has been huge so far, with the track already passing one million Spotify streams. When you were making it, did you have any sense that it could connect on this level?
Tbh no, it’s so melodic and original, vocal-heavy. It’s a tad more of a reach than where the usual dance music audience goes; however, the fact that it is being welcomed makes me more confident that what I want as an artist is possible. Saying that, I think of this as more of a house-music song than a track. Being a passionate songwriter, that’s dope, and exciting to see a new path that’s possible for myself and other singer-songwriters within the genre.
‘Fantasy’ feels like a bit of a switch-up from your usual sound. What made you want to explore this direction, and did you approach the collaboration differently because of that?
I think it’s a switch up because Silva Bumpa approached it from a more musician approach than a producer making a track approach by starting with chords, he’s a dope pianist, in case anyone didn’t know.
You trained as an opera singer and have roots in soul and R&B. How much of that background do you think naturally comes through in your vocal on ‘Fantasy’?
The R&B heaps, the opera hahaha none. It feels a little retro R&B on purpose, but this came more from some inspo tracks SB showed me before recording.
You’ve been spending a lot of time between London studios and recently made your fabric debut. How has that time in London influenced your sound – and did any of that energy make its way into ‘Fantasy’?
Wow, I’d say London has elevated my craft and is forming a new vision of how I can transcend from a featuring artist to main stage, which is a complex maze within itself, as I think there haven’t been many who’ve done it.
You’ve already had a huge year. What else have you got coming up that you can tell us about?
Well I’ve done about 70 songs this year, some collabs with mega artists. Now, as mentioned prior, I’m starting to envision what a live show looks like, bringing my listeners from club to concert halls and stadiums. Creating a bit more genre-bending music to do the job as well. I’m getting there, this summer I’ve been revisiting the greats – Elton, Marley, Wonder, and Jackson, as an example – regaining my live show embodiment, now that I’ve written enough songs to work for me for the next 2-3 years, regarding DJ collabs.
