Contributing WriterJustin Martin is a long-time US house mainstay who has forged his own singular sound after many years touring the world as a DJ and releasing music on the likes of his brother’s Trippy Ass Technologies as well as his own What To Do. Troves is a new series that will play home to assorted Martin-related tracks whether new, unreleased, collaborative or remixed, plus any other treasures unearthed on his hard drive.
Kicking things off, he teams up with West Coast hero Lenny Kiser for the molten ‘Rude’. Living up to its name, the tune sneaks into your brain and unleashes havoc with its hypnotic bells and rumbling dangerous low end. The superb ‘Dark Matter’ is a tune with San Francisco mainstay and Sunset Sound system founder Galen. Galen has been a key player in the city’s scene whilst also programming stages at festivals like Love International and has hit the upper end of Beatport’s charts with his fresh house sounds. The tune has swung-out drums furnished with razor-sharp bass plucks that morph into a searing acid line to make for some moody dance floor weaponry.
Last but not least, Justin & Galen’s 2010 bomb ‘Tumbleweed’ gets a monumental makeover for 2024 after being dropped to great effect in recent sets. It comes on strong with disorienting piano stabs and tripped-out vocal mutations but refined with a punchier mix and an updated drum kit that makes even more of an impact.
