Fresh off the release of their long-awaited sophomore album Lunatic, Los Angeles electronic duo Dance Spirit, composed of Christopher Mohn and Reagan Denius, return today with ACTIVATION, a four-track EP released through their independent imprint 交感 (Koukan).
Following a six-year period apart, the duo’s recent reunion has ushered in a renewed chapter of creativity. While Lunatic revisited an earlier period in their musical journey, ACTIVATION pushes their sound forward, bringing together two entirely new productions alongside two reimagined tracks from their catalogue.
Built around themes of transmission, ritual, and exchange, the EP moves fluidly through broken beat, deep tech, techno, and minimal house, showcasing Dance Spirit’s distinctive approach to sound design, psychedelic textures, and hypnotic grooves.
Opening the release, “ACTIVATION (illuminarian mystic’s mix)” sets the tone with a driving fusion of broken beat and techno, layering a tightly controlled low end with Japanese female vocals and traditional spiritual melodies.
“SERAPHIM (dreaming mind mix)” ventures further into psychedelic territory, combining tripped-out vocals, driving rhythms, and a dreamlike breakdown that creates an immersive, otherworldly atmosphere.
On “Edge of Reality (2026 rejuvenation protocol),” Dance Spirit revisit an earlier production with a refreshed sonic perspective. Seductive French vocals weave through unconventional synthesizer arrangements and shifting grooves, while a reworked low end gives the track renewed intensity.
Closing the EP, “Antidote (alkitek recipe mix)” offers a deeper, groove-driven excursion into minimal house, with rolling percussion, warm basslines, and spacious dub chords providing a hypnotic conclusion.
Together, the four tracks unfold as a loose narrative of activation, vision, disruption, and recovery, extending the creative mythology surrounding Dance Spirit’s evolving universe of Illuminaria.
Released through their independent imprint Koukan, ACTIVATION also reflects the duo’s commitment to artistic independence. Conceived as a home for their music, visual storytelling, and immersive creative projects, the label allows Christopher and Reagan to explore their artistic vision beyond the constraints of conventional releases.
