Interview with Gledd
Tell us about yourself, your musical journey and where the moniker “Gledd” comes from?
I come from a small provincial town close to Venice, Italy named Pordenone. At the moment I live in Mexico, and I recently moved from Tulum to Mexico City. I chose the “Gledd” alias because I sincerely like the way it sounds… Nothing more then that. Actually, everybody needs a name but nobody could choose it. I’ve never been able to choose mine. So I did choose my alias
So, you’re from Italy but you seem to have strong ties with Mexico and South America… tell us about those connections?
Yes. I produced one of my EPs for the Brazillian label – About Disco – and one for the Colombian label – Nómada Records – which is one of my favorite labels. And as I mentioned before, I moved to Mexico 8 months ago. At the moment, I think that this is one of the most important music scenes in the world… at least for my music genre.
Anything else you care to share with us? Upcoming releases? Exciting gigs? This is your chance to plug, plug, plug!
My friend The Funk District and I, we just signed a track to the London based label, Tropical Disco and I’m currently working on a new EP, while my previous one, Soul Shapes (out now on Masterworks Music) will be available soon on all streaming and digital platforms. On July 12, I’ll have the pleasure of sharing the stage with my Mexican friends, Hotmood, Monsieur Van Pratt and the Australian guy Teymori, a pleasant discovery.
I recently started up a project “Saint Wax” that, at the moment, aims to promote weekly vinyl mixes produced by various international artists.
What is your #1 dancefloor weapon at the moment?
O’Flynn – Sunspear
