HNQO returns to SlothBoogie Recs after contributing the looped up goodness of his ‘So Sure’ track to the label’s Dancing With Friends series last summer. This time round he’s delivered another set of pumping and danceable gems for the No Punk EP.
Interview With HNQO
Hey HNQO! Tell us a little bit about yourself. How did you get into music, and how long have you been producing music?
Hey guys, Henrique here from Brazil, currently living in Curitiba. I’ve been making music for the past 16 years and I assume It all started in a very common way. At least I’ve seen a lot of fellow producers hailing from paths alike. At young ages I used to consume what was on the radio and later on, going out for open air parties and also making some of my own events. It all came naturally and I’ve met some producers that inspired me to start making my own beats and tricks until the present day.
What motivates your work as an artist?
Motivation keeps changing its fuel from time to time. To be artistically stimulated at all times is a hard task nowadays. There are so many things in adult life keeping me from my focus and the answer for that question comes down to the simple things, such as finishing a nice track and signing it to a matching label, the research for new techniques, new and old music, movies. Social experiences are a good part of it too.
What’s your sound?
My sound is constantly drifting. Bouncing between what I want and what I’m actually able to achieve.
It is heavily dependent on interesting textures and pleasant repetition.
Are there any artists who are currently inspiring your work?
There are many artists that inspire different niches in my workflow.
Walk us through the inspiration behind your latest EP, “No Punk”.
The tracks on this EP are coming from three different parts of my music timeline. The title “No Punk” was produced in 2023, “Non Verbal Comms” is fresh from 2024 and “Trick” is from the vault, made in 2016. “Trick” went through real analog tape for that old school feel, “No Punk” is the representation of a rolling and repetitiveness. “Non Verbal Comms” had me focused on the low end and its buoyant melody.
If you could name one thing, what’s something you’re particularly proud of since starting this journey?
The experiences.
Anything else you’d like to share?
It’s my birthday week! 🙂
