Interview with Apollo 84

How did you first get introduced to underground dance music?
I was around the age of 14, UK garage was big at the time and my friend at school gave me a tape of DJ EZ to listen too, I loved it and my tastes and sounds grew as I got older.

What is the most challenging part of becoming a full-time producer?
Its simply the time and dedication for me, running Twisted Fusion, as well as our showcases makes it difficult in the studio sometimes to not get distracted but somehow I manage it.

What has been the most exciting turning point of your career so far?
I think the signing and release on Steve Lawler’s Viva imprint, this gave me the exposure and opportunities to be recognized by other big labels for my follow up releases on Incorrect , Roush, and Lost. and also put me in the window for promoters globally.

Where is your home base? If someone were visiting there for the first time, what clubs and/or parties and/or restaurants would they want to check out?
I live just outside London near Stansted airport, its perfect with traveling to European gigs and flying in dj’s for our shows etc. Unfortunately its out in the country so theres  not much in the way of exciting nightlife or restaurants.

What advice would you give to an aspiring producer?
To simply never give up. Its a long and frustrating path at times for many and takes a long time for recognition, releases, bookings etc, perseverance is key to making it in the industry always follow your dream.

What’s on the horizon for Apollo 84 in 2017?
A UK and European tour of my Twisted Fusion imprint, I also have some big releases planned, I can’t announce which labels just yet but one of them is a techno ep, on a big European label, something I am really looking forward too showing my versatile sound etc.

Do you have any hobbies outside of music?
Football is something I enjoy, I go to as many Arsenal games as I can, unfortunately music and running the label and events limits me doing much else, but I wouldn’t change that for anything.

Name one of your go-to tracks…
Right now its Wade’s forthcoming ep on Twisted Fusion the track is called Keep Pushing its simply a dance floor stomper !!

With whom would your dream collaboration be with (dead or alive producer)?
Great question,  id have to say right now it would be Jay Lumen, his production and grooves are second to none, his technical ability and quality really shines through.

Tell us about your mix…
Its very much on the stomping aggressive side as my sets are too, I also wanted to include some darker sounds in there from the likes of Metodi Hristov, and Shosho, overall i think its groovy and tough !!

Drink of choice…
Vodka Cranberry, the hangovers are more bearable with Cranberry, thats what I tell myself anyway haha!
