The prodigiously talented London-based singer-songwriter and artist Lisabel returns with her first new music of 2023 in the form of the single ‘Keep Me Afloat’, her most sensitive and spectrally beautiful composition to date.

In one sense, the song finds Lisabel addressing a loved one, a powerful, heart-wrenching attempt to reach out for help before she is submerged by life’s burdens (“Keep me afloat, where I’m going is so cold”). And yet, such is Lisabel’s writing prowess, the song works yet more poignantly when understood that she may in fact be singing to herself, searching inward to summon the strength and willpower to persevere against her daily struggles (“Use your smile, it turns darkness into light”).

Amid her own mental health concerns and an outside world that can feel like an emotional assault course, complete with the societal pressures to remain relentlessly positive and creative no matter what, ‘Keep Me Afloat’ is a moving and honest depiction of a battle that will resonate with almost any listener. Whatever your reading, Lisabel reminds us that hope persists eternally and that love can prevail against the odds (“I’ll keep you afloat, together we’ll grow old”).

‘Keep Me Afloat’ is co-written and produced by long time collaborator , the London-based musician Nikola Kovačević, who also takes the helm behind the track’s swimming, watery bed of Moog synths , the gently lapping keyboard notes often triggered by guitar pedal effects which are joined by a pitter-pattering of light percussion, never too much to disrupt or distract us from the dreamlike quality of the track. Finally, a tearstained guitar part adds a contemplative, reflective closing note to this most personal and soul-bearing of tracks.

It is Lisabel’s first music to be released since her brace of 2022 singles, ‘Never Afraid’ and ‘Flor de Louis’, which themselves built upon the foundations of her elegant 2020 debut album ‘A Work of Art’. Lisabel’s talent has been cultivated at some of the world’s highest seats of cultural learning, including Berklee College of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Drama and BIMM London, from the latter of which she achieved a degree in performance. At such a young age still, it would appear that we are only just beginning to tap into the full potential of Lisabel’s range of talent.
