Contributing WriterSalvatore Patisso, aka DJ Patisso, has been deep in the scene for twenty years as a DJ, producer, radio host and promoter from Lecce. He has held key residences at the most important clubs in the Salento scene and international stages, sharing the console with heavyweights such as Purple Disco Machine, Bob Sinclar and Riva Starr. We caught up with him to learn a bit more about his past and how that’s influenced his productions recently such as his latest release “Like You” on Junior Jack’s Adesso Music.
Hi Salvatore, Welcome to Music Is 4 Lovers!
Over the years, you have held various residencies at clubs in Italy, Switzerland and, specifically, Salento. Which club do you resonate the most with and have the fondest memories?
That’s a very difficult question to answer because every club always leaves something different. There’s a few that resonate with me. I’ll never forget the first club I ever performed in, a historic club in Salento, “Ciak”, which for over 20 years was number one in nightlife. Or “Bahia” in Otranto as well, which was the first summer club that I performed in. The “BluBay” in Castro, a beautiful club located on a hill overlooking the sea or even one of the most important clubs in Rome, “Vinile”. However, “Duo Club” in Bienne (Switzerland) remains with me most of all, and I remember it with such pleasure because it was the Rolex party, the deluxe watch brand.
What can you tell us about the scene in Salento and how that’s been formative to your productions?
Salento is a place that has given many artists in every sector, from sport to music, many influences, and the clubs have always been at the forefront, in fact, it is called “Ibiza’s Italy” because the sounds are truly modern and in line with trends from all over the world and the world’s top DJs/producers have always come to perform there. I am an old-school DJ, and therefore, I have gone through the entire evolution of house music with all the various genres that compose it. Therefore, I love, as I also do in my DJ’s set, to produce the best parts of House (tech, deep, funky, house). In Fact, one of my recent productions, “Dimuui”, is very Salento as I sampled “Pizzica Salentina”, a popular track locally.
You have experience as a DJ, producer, radio host and promoter. Which has been the most influential on your career over the past 20 years?
I actually started working in a radio station in 1987, and in 1991, I started playing in clubs, so I’ve been on the scene for over 30 years. There are many DJs/producers who have influenced me; I’ve tried to take something from everyone, above all, Vega, Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Roger Sanchez, Bob Sinclar, Martin Solveig, Joey Negro, Junior Jack but also Riva Starr, Hector Romero, Mo Black, &Me and Fisher.
Your sound goes from Jackin House to house to some funky tech house tunes. What can you tell us about your latest EP ‘Like You’ on Junior Jack’s Adesso Music?
Yes, I like my productions to range across all House sub-genres. Normally, I tend to go down two avenues when producing: one more on the house side and the other more on the tech side of things. However, with “Like You”, for the first time, I thought of a track that combines both elements and that was for the dancefloor but also funky and a vocal sample that helped to colour the track.
There always seems to be a raw house sound present with your productions. Do you have a particular piece of equipment or plugin that helps to facilitate your sound?
No, I don’t use anything fancy but I play a lot with the saturation via the decapitator plugin to get that effect
Who would be your dream B2B, and why?
This is also a difficult question, it would certainly, because I’m fascinated by their DJing and their selection, be an honour to play with the label’s boss Junior Jack, and then also Nic Fanciulli, Jamie Jones, Mo Black, Joseph Capriati, Mark Knight and Mochakk.
Lastly, do you have any goals for the rest of 2024?
For the rest of 2024, I want to continue to produce music and play it around the world.
