Amelle Rose is back two years on from her stellar debut album ‘Conversations With Louise’ to share her latest EP, ‘Yours Sincerely’.
Funded by Help Musicians, its four tracks see the French Bristol-based musician explore grey areas of life experiences (particularly from a female perspective) as she navigates complex emotions including shame and vulnerability — particularly, she notes, “when they don’t fit into society’s black-and-white expectations”. “Writing these songs allowed me to process and express difficult, deeply personal feelings in an honest and raw way,” she adds.
Sonically, the record is characterised by atmospheric yet full-throttle instrumentation. At times haunting, at times textured via electric guitars, and skilfully utilising drum machine pads and live drums, the ‘Yours Sincerely’ navigates between introspective and powerful. This is both thematic – ‘Congratulations’ tackles struggles with postpartum depression, ‘Liar’ addresses the pain of dealing with estranged family, ‘Wish You Well’ explores empathy and its emotional toll and ‘“Can’t Talk (Happy Birthday)” confronts the grief surrounding abortion – and sonically; the musician’s earnest collaboration with producer Dean Dichoso across each track ensuring the storytelling aspect of the lyrics are enhanced to the finest degree.
Amelle Rose has been described by Clout as “creating a vulnerable and honest energy”, perhaps most succinctly idealising her skillset of transforming song into a powerfully introspective experience. Often embodying, or aligning with, alternative and indie-rock soundscapes, she takes advantage of the genre’s fiercely honest and distinctive, rebellious sounds, whilst confronting deeply personal themes through lyricism covering mental health, the human condition and struggles with hypersensitivity.
Amelle’s commitment to her craft – she relocated from France to the UK at 19 to pursue her musical career – has shone recently, having been recognised by the charity Help Musicians, who has awarded her funding for ‘Yours Sincerely’. This significant achievement marks a new juncture in her musical journey, allowing Amelle to continue her exploration of impactful and authentic music while promising a future filled with rich sonic experiences that build profound connections.
