For Volume o4 of our G-Love Mixtape series we learn what it’s like havin’ a roni from a DJ/Producer who has skyrocketed onto the scene in recent years — Vanilla Ace. With hot jams on a score of decorous labels such as Toolroom, Ministry of Sound, OFF, Bunny Tiger, and Suara; Vanilla Ace ramrods a driving 4/4 sprinkled with the G shit we all know and love — perfecto para this run of mixtapes.
Interview with Vanilla Ace:
Who inspires you?
I get inspired a lot by great samples I find in my vast record collection. I grew up DJing on vinyl so my collection is large covering a a lot of genres from funk, disco, hip hop, R&B to all sorts of house music.
What jam gets all the ladies on the dance floor?
‘Musicology’ seems to work…
When do you find the time to make all those hot beats?
During the week when I’m back in London and not traveling. I like to do my sessions during the day, spend a good day working on them.
Where is Vanilla Ace in 2020?
Hopefully still making great music and touring the globe, playing festivals and amazing clubs.
Why you so G?
It’s in the family.
How do you balance tour-time and downtime?
Even when I’m on tour I find time to chill, especially if I arrive early into a city and have a day off or a afternoon, gives you time to do some sight seeing or relax, visit a spa or something, i enjoy going to the cinema.
Sup with this mix?
A lot of new music from myself, remixes and forthcoming releases.
Vanilla Ace embarks on 19 gig U.S. Tour in June; including two Music is 4 Lovers parties in San Diego and Tijuana. He also has a forthcoming release on Erase with Volac (our G-Love guest next month).
