Talented Parisian producer and DJ, Mira Ló, swiftly established herself as one of the industry’s rising stars with the success of her debut EP ‘Memories’ last year. Following a 60-date tour across France and Europe, we caught up with Mira Ló to discuss her comeback EP on Pont Neuf Records, ‘Tribute To Chicago’.

Hey Mira! Thanks for chatting to Music Is 4 Lovers. Looks like you had an amazing 2023 with the release of your debut EP and a 60 date tour in Europe! Tell us about your favourite moments.

Hello! I’ve been able to travel all over the world, including Berlin, where I rediscovered a sense of celebration I’d lost with people who I felt were really there for the music. Honestly, I’d never seen so many happy faces, and that helped me re-appropriate partying and tell myself that it was possible to feel safe.

This March, you’re returning to Pont Neuf Records with a brand new EP, ‘Tribute To Chicago’. What can you tell us about the release and the inspiration behind it?

This album was a revival for me as it was a difficult period just before this trip. When I got there, I met some exceptional people; the city healed me and gave me the strength I’d lost. When I got back to France, I met someone very important to me who helped me to see the world in a different way, so from this inspiration I decided to make something groovy, punchy that makes you want to dance all night long.

It’s really great to see female producers/DJs getting the credit they deserve in an industry that is often male dominated. As an artist based in Paris from an underrepresented group, how has your experience in the French house scene been?

When I started out, there was no me too hashtag, and I was confronted with organizers who would ask me disrespectful things to play at their parties, so I preferred to take the time I needed to get to where I am, surrounding myself with people, especially men, who have a deep respect for women in general. Thomas, my manager, was the first to give me hope in this house scene where very few women are represented. He helps me to move forward every day and to believe in myself, which gives me incredible courage and ability to make the music I love and to be able to make the whole world dance. Whatever idea I get to create safer, more inclusive parties, Thomas and I give 100% to make this scene change little by little, gently, and that’s what I needed for the future, so I’m entirely grateful to him for the strength he gives me.

What’s the number one goal for your career as an artist and why?

I have two very specific goals which I think relate one to another. The first is to be recognized for my music, have my EPs tour the world and have people say that my music is good for them. A US tour thanks to my EPs would be the supreme goal for my career.

What would you say sets apart France’s dance music scene from the rest of the world?

I think there’s something special about the French scene, especially all those iconic artists like Daft Punk, Justice, Alan Braxe, Laurent Garnier. I believe, back then, they brought a timeless era to France and a lot of artists around the world were inspired by them. What I’m seeing now is a lot of artists doing hybrid live shows; there’s an eclectic scene in house, techno, dark disco etc., and I think it’s really cool to have access to all these types of music.

Are you influenced by any DJs/artists in particular?

At the moment, I’m very inspired by DJ Gigola, a woman from Berlin who mixes techno and lyrics in Spanish. Being of Spanish origin, I draw on her music because I find her productions hyper sensual and punchy at the same time, which gives me a lot of ideas when I’m on stage, and I thank her for that.

What can you tell use about your interests and passions, outside of music?

I love going to the cinema (I can find myself going to see a movie on my own), but what brings me the most joy is to go dancing with my friends or staying at home to play video games. It might sound surprising but some of the soundtracks are exceptional, it’s my little guilty pleasure.

What do you have lined up for the rest of 2024?

Honestly, I’m already composing a 3rd EP, and I really want this year to be hyper-productive so I can reach stages I don’t have access to yet. I aim to reach this goal by 2025 or 2026 and go on tour in the USA, my source of inspiration.
