While only two releases into its relaunched schedule, it’s clear to see that Stacey Pullen’s longrunning Blackflag Recordings imprint is back with purpose and direction, with the legendary Detroit native showcasing and curating his percussive, groove-led take on house music with both his own new material, and that of exciting newcomers and established talent from across the globe. Heading into summer and the Ibiza season, it’s no surprise that the third EP is already making waves on the White Isle via opening weekend support from both Marco Carola and Paco Osuna, with Pullen inviting Venuzeula’s Zamoras to the label for their ‘Wakawena’ EP following previous material from the pair via Boogeyman, Tamango and more.

“Since I have been travelling to Venezuela for more than ten years, I have always felt that their music scene and artists have a great sense of knowledge in great quality music. Zamoras approached me with this new EP, and I couldn’t be happier with the results. The early positive feedback and plays from Marco Carola, The Martinez Brothers, and of course, myself, prove that these guys have what it takes to move the dance floor.” – Stacey Pullen.

Harnessing their Latin influences, ‘Wakawena’ is rolling and vibrant from the off, with organic drums working beneath playful vocal calls, playful samples and zipping melodies for an infectious percussive groover. Next up, Pakate boss and NYC-born, Miami-based DJ/producer Jean Pierre joins proceedings with his ‘In The Jungle’ remix of the title cut, flipping the original and introducing a heady, slinking groove and weighty low-ends to drive things forward. To close, Zamoras serve up their second original with ‘Flashback’, a stripped-back cut that still packs a punch with its wormhole groove, rap samples and crisp drum arrangements.
