Looking to start 2021 on a high note, upcoming singer-songwriter PRVNA joins Needwant for Get Down, the first of her many singles slated with the forward thinking label.
Known for delivering colourful melodies, South London based PRVNA is quickly becoming one to watch as she intricately blends cocktails of reliability and release in her sound. Drawing on influences of Etta James, all the way through to MJ Cole, PRVNA’s distinctive genre-bending production makes nods to alternative RnB, funky house and Afro-Latin genres to encapsulate the UK sound of today. Speaking about this balance she said:
“Making music that people can dance to and also find a bit of hope in too. The projects I am working on now show me I am honing in on a sound, which doesn’t always fit into a box but has an energy I am constantly craving”
Despite PRVNA’s own journey starting just 5 years ago, music has always been at the forefront of her life. With her older brothers surrounding her in jungle music, her parents bringing their Mauritian heritage to her upbringing, whilst discovering rave culture from an early age, PRVNA straddles across various genres and cultures to draw parallels with tropical island, feel good dance music. This, coupled with the South London landscapes where she grew up, have influenced the storytelling behind her production to make for a string of addictive singles such as Don’t Make a Sound and Fever (which recieved huge praise from Earmilk).
Now signed to Needwant, which has recently been joined by the likes of Meg Ward, Laur.a and Eliza Legzdina, PRVNA is too set to make waves on the scene. Packing Get Down with strong grooves, demanding vocals and soulful hooks, PRVNA once again delivers a relatable perfectly produced record. And, with follow up singles and heavyweight DJ remixes from the likes of Girls of the Internet slated for release later this year, PRVNA is poised to become a star of 2021.
