German techno pioneer Paul Kalkbrenner has made a point to propagate the music that played such a major influence on his signature grand techno sound to his audience at large.
His acclaimed Back to the Future mixtape series made waves for it’s incredible breadth of song selection, spanning decades of music that shaped Paul’s sound. Today, he returns to his roots once more with his new ‘Speak Up’ EP.
The EP plays a little more rough around the edges than some of Paul’s more clean, polished records. Strictly speaking, this is Paul’s most club-focused EP yet, and while it still maintains Paul’s famous sound, the less-than-pristine production harkens back to the clubs of old.
Check out the EP below to get a sense of this sonic shift for Paul. Hard, percussive, and unrefined, it’s an exciting addition to Paul’s expansive discography.
