Stepping into summer with the fourth release under Josh Butler and José Rosa’s Maritime Yacht Club moniker, the duo recently dropped another high-quality single from their forthcoming album.

Backing up impressive offerings ‘On My Own’, ‘Change’ and ‘Floating On A Star’, Josh and José are on hand with another invigorating vocal-led deep house cut, blending punchy grooves, vivid piano lines, rich guitar riffs and another stunning vocal arrangement from José.

We caught up with Josh and José for an immersive chat about their musical backgrounds, thoughts on the industry, their Maritime Yacht Club project, and more.

What first got you both into music?

We have always had a deep love and passion for music. It’s something that has been a part of our lives for as long as we can remember. Whether it was listening to our favourite songs, playing instruments, or being inspired by other artists, music has always been a driving force for us.

Tell us about your latest record, ‘I’ll Be There’, and the focus behind this track.

‘I’ll Be There’ is a heartfelt song that explores themes of love, support, and being there for someone in their time of need. It’s a track that aims to capture the emotions. We wanted to create a song that resonates with people on a personal level but is also something people can dance to.

What inspired the Maritime Yacht Club project?

The Maritime Yacht Club project was inspired by our shared desire to create music that combines elements of various genres and styles. We wanted to explore and experiment with different sounds and influences, to push boundaries and offer something unique to our listeners.

How would you describe the music that you typically create?

It can be described as a fusion of different genres with inspirations from house, garage, and 80s pop, with something we want to people to feel they can connect to.

What can you tell us about your forthcoming album?

The album was never intentional at first, but we had so many tracks we were happy with; it just formed naturally. Every track is different from another, so we are really happy with the variety in sounds and genres.

Which artists do you both look up to?

We both take inspiration from so many genres and have different backgrounds in music ranging from the likes of Kerri Chandler to more commercial sounds like Meduza and CamelPhat.

If you could change anything about the music industry, what would it be and why?

It would be to create a more equitable and transparent system for artists. This would involve fairer compensation for their work, greater support for independent musicians, and a more inclusive platform that enables artists to fairly make a living.

What’s next for Maritime Yacht Club?

We have a really busy release schedule and have confirmed some great collaborations with some amazing artists, which we are really excited about.

I”ll Be There is out now!
