Hey Mario, how are you, what’s good, what’s bad/?
Hello! Everything is good, nothing is bad. I’m looking forward to the summer as I’ll have more time to spend in the studio, to create new music.

How did you first get into music in Lebanon? How long were you there?
I actually grew up in Marbella (Spain), where I was introduced to Spanish Bacalao (a form of Spanish Techno) in the early 90s, as well as House Music from artists such as Masters at Work, Reel 2 Real just to name a few… Since that moment, I began religiously attending house and dance events. I started DJing at house parties in 2004, when I had moved to Dubai and started producing music in 2016.

And what influence did being in Spain have on you? What is the scene like?
The Spanish scene has a strong electronic music culture, with many great artists. With such great references, this has motivated me to keep creating.

You have a strong foothold in Dubai too – what is the dance music scene like there? Is it all mainstream?
In the last 7 years, the scene in the UAE has exploded. Venues such as Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE have educated audiences about all ranges of electronic music. The biggest underground artists, have all played in the UAE.

What good parties, labels and DJs are there locally?
Raxon is a great example of a local artist in the UAE who now has an international foothold in the underground scene. Frederick Stone, a good friend and mentor is one to keep an eye out on. A super experienced DJ, with lots of great productions in the pipeline.

In my opinion, Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE throws the best parties.

What have been the best and key moments in your career so far?
Only this last weekend did I have the opportunity to collaborate and perform with an incredible musician, ‘Bahramji’. We performed at Blue Marlin Ibiza UAE as part of Satori’s Maktub showcase event.

Also, I’m getting a lot of international support on my Sultan EP, which has made me very happy.

Your bio says you mix ethnic vibes and dark melodies – how did you come to these sounds?
My music is dictated by what moves me as a listener, and this mainly starts off with the groove. This drives me to look for music which contains percussions. Then comes the ethnic vibes, which is driven by my Arabic roots. The dark melodies has been inspired from labels such as Innervisions, Keinemusik & Diynamic.

Tell us about your new EP on Voyeur – What inspired it?
During the period of time which I created the Sultan EP, I was a resident at Disconekt, the leading mid-week underground party in Dubai, and I was playing music that ethnically inspired. The Sultan EP arose naturally out of the sounds I was playing as a DJ.

What gear did you use? Do you care about your tools?
Logic Pro X and a few plugins.

What else have you got coming up?
I’m currently in the studio working on a three track EP and I have a few gigs lined up over the next few months.
