Following their return to Enormous Vision we caught up with MaMan to hear more about what went into ‘Feeding The Fire’.
MaMan, great to have the chance to speak with you today. Congratulations on the release of your latest single Feeding The Fire. How did the collaboration come about with MARYN?
I met Maryn Charlie (MARYN) last year during the Amsterdam Dance Event. We spoke about music, our visions and ideas. We agreed to work on a song together and I went through my demos. I felt Maryn’s vocals are perfect for a trance/hypnotic track, so we started working on what eventually became ‘Feeding the Fire’.
What made Enormous Vision the perfect home for the release?
This year, I am an exclusive artist at Enormous Vision. They support me in many ways and help me to consistently release music. I feel like we are a perfect match in terms of sound, style and vision. Let’s see where it will go from here!
Can you tell us a bit about your studio set up. Are you more software or hardware focussed?
Currently, I work almost completely in-the-box (software). Although I start most of my songs on the piano – my favorite instrument. If I would have more studio space, I would have bought cool synthesizers (like Prophet or Moog) and other acoustic instruments…
Many DJs and producers have signature sounds or techniques. What elements or production techniques do you believe set your music apart from others in the electronic music scene?
Chords, melodies, piano and feel. I tend to create really melodic tracks, with or without vocals. Most of my productions include some form of piano, and often have a warm approach. Furthermore, you will hear a lot of natural/real sounds like birds, water, percussions etc.!
Can we expect to hear more from you on Enormous Vision in the future?
Absolutely, as I said, I’m exclusive now so we have a lot more music coming your way! We are building up my career in many ways, even beyond music. They have an interesting team and they are happy, so far, with the music and content I deliver to the label!
Who would be your dream producer to remix this release?
There are already 2 remixes coming very soon… I can’t tell you about the artists yet, but they are really cool. Other than these, maybe Cristoph or CamelPhat would be a dream. Their sounds are big, and would fit the vocals and vibe of ‘Feeding the Fire’ perfectly.
Finally, what advice would you give to your younger self if you could?
Cliche alert: Be authentic! I know many people say this, but it’s so true. Every individual is different, everyone is a bit special. Know yourself and share it with the world. People will eventually follow you because of who you are, so be yourself.
