Los Angeles-via-New Orleans vocalist and songwriter Josef Lamercier is stepping into the spotlight on his new single: “Figure It Out (feat. Huey Briss).” Executive produced by Niko Oroc (Fly Anakin, Reuben Vincent) and equipped with a surreal visualizer, it’s a slice of soulful hip-hop and R&B that shows why Lamercier has become a coveted songwriter. Most notably co-writing “fuego” by Channel Tres and Tyler, The Creator, his credits come with the likes of Lucky Daye, Deb Never, Tkay Maidza, Dua Saleh, and many more.

Alongside his prolific catalog, Lamercier has a gripping background: displaced by Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita as a child, he moved to Texas where he found his love for music in the local church choir. He’d go on to attend college in Oklahoma before working with prisoners to assist them in their worship services upon graduation. His childhood passion for music eventually came calling, though, specifically when his college classmate Channel Tres told him he should move to Los Angeles. Arriving in LA with $3,500 to his name while weathering a global pandemic and 10-month stretch of homelessness, Lamercier kept writing at 3-to-4 sessions a day with his focus squarely on his dedication to music.

With his extensive list of credits over the past few years, there’s no doubt Lamercier’s dedication has paid off artistically as a songwriter and is soon to pay off as a solo artist. On “Figure It Out,” he’s truly ready to begin telling his own singular story; a story that begins with wisdom on breaking free from the crushing cycles of trauma and unrequited love while still having to meet the task of figuring out the life we live.
