Hey Dexter, how are you and how has 2023 been for you so far?

Good with several DJ gigs and music releases planned in the next 6 months.

What is your background, when and how did you get into dance music?

I was passionate about electronic sounds since I was a kid and used to record music from video games on my Nintendo-Nes and Sega-Megadrive.

Then I started mixing at the age of 13 at the home of a friend’s older brother who was a fan of house & techno music and who was the only person in my neighbourhood to have MK2 decks (he generously let me use them to take my first steps). After that I started to mix in bars, clubs and festivals in the area and also started to produce.

Do you tailor your releases for each label you hook up with?

Generally I compose the track first and then contact the label(s) to be interested according to the musical line in which the track fits.

What is your sound, your signature, the thing that defines you?

A perpetual search for groove with often jazz, disco, funk & soul influences.

What inspired the new one on Street King?

I am a music lover and listen to many different styles (classic, film music, jazz, hip-hop, pop, etc.).

In this release there are some classic house influences from the late 90’s as well as Tribal House for “Oh My Child”.

Where and when was it written and do things like that affect the sounds that come out?

In my studio in Lausanne. When I’m in the composing process I kind of forget what’s going on around me.

What gear did you use – do you collect hardware or obsess over software?

I use Ableton Live Suite as my DAW. Otherwise some software (UHE, Native Instruments, iZotope, Arturia,…), some samples (Vengeance, Loopmasters,…) and some hardware (TR909, TR808, Nord Stage 3, Prophet 8, Virus TI, and Moog Voyager).

What else have you got coming up?

Some releases planned in the next 6 months on Street King Records, Mood Funk Records and Monoside Records as well as DJ gigs mainly in Switzerland.

What have been the most important lessons you have learnt in your career?

Passion, perseverance and patience.

What was the last record you bought and why?

“Oliver Dollar & Nils Ohrmann – John’s Church”, which I think has a really incredible groove and vibe to it.
