For a festival only in its second edition, AURA is already punching well above its weight. Bringing more than 10,000 people together across three days in Sofia Airport Park, the event showcased why Bulgaria is becoming an increasingly exciting destination for electronic music.

What immediately stands out about AURA is its ambition. More than 50 artists performed across three stages, with a programme that balanced globally recognised names alongside the next generation of electronic talent. The result was Bulgaria’s biggest international electronic music line-up to date, spanning everything from EDM and melodic house to techno and live electronic performances.

Opening night belonged to Alok, making his long-awaited Bulgarian debut. The Brazilian superstar delivered a high-energy main stage performance that immediately set the tone for the weekend, with one of the festival’s biggest crowds responding to every drop. It was a reminder of why he remains one of the world’s most in-demand electronic artists.

Elsewhere, Avalon brought a different dynamic to the main stage, weaving live performance elements into a set that stood apart from the weekend’s more conventional DJ performances. On the Tower Stage, PARALLELE proved one of the festival’s breakout moments, drawing people away from the main arena with a groove-driven set that became one of the weekend’s most talked-about performances.

Sunday’s headline appearance from Armin van Buuren provided a fitting finale. Joined on stage by vocalist Sacha, whose live performance blended seamlessly into the production, the set demonstrated why Armin continues to be one of dance music’s defining figures. Earlier in the weekend, Jesabel celebrated her birthday on stage, creating one of the festival’s more personal moments as the crowd joined in the celebrations.

Beyond the headline acts, AURA’s greatest strength lay in its atmosphere. From the opening afternoon until sunrise, Bulgarian dance music fans brought a level of energy that rarely faded. Extended programming until 6am allowed the festival to build naturally towards its sunrise finale, with packed dancefloors carrying the momentum well into the early hours.

The location also played its part. Set in Sofia Airport Park, aircraft passing overhead became an unexpected backdrop to the music, giving AURA a visual identity that felt distinct without overshadowing the performances themselves.

With three of the current top five DJs in the DJ Mag Top 100 appearing across the weekend, alongside a carefully curated selection of emerging local and international artists, AURA demonstrated both the scale of its ambition and its commitment to the future of electronic music. Just two editions in, it has already established itself as one of Eastern Europe’s most promising new festivals and a compelling reason to keep an eye on Bulgaria’s rapidly growing dance music scene.

AURA Festival returns to Sofia in summer 2027.
