Raw Tools Vol 1. is a tribute to our musical roots : 90s House, Raw House and Garage.  The first release of Outdom Records, a real club tool for DJs and music lovers seeking for wicked and sexy grooves, will be available on both vinyl and digital.

This record is a compilation of four tracks navigating between classic 90s Chicago House, New York Garage, UK Garage and touches of Acid House. Aiming at a vintage aesthetic, this EP displays a stomper and deep groove associated with razor sharp stabs and dreamy, ravy atmosphere.

We had the chance to sync up with the Outdom Records crew and get to know a little bit more about who’s behind this dope new label.

Interview With Outdom Records

Q1: Who is behind the new imprint?

Outdom Records is a record label & collective based in Paris, founded by 4 DJs and producers : Brooklyn Baby, Latent, and the duo Shortcut.

Q2: Tell us about your first release?

Raw Tools Vol 1, is a tribute to our musical roots : 90s House, Raw House and Garage. The first release of Outdom Records, a real club tool for DJs and music lovers seeking for wicked and sexy grooves.

This record is a compilation of fours tracks navigating between classic 90s Chicago House, New York Garage, UK Garage and touches of Acid House. Aiming at a vintage aesthetic, this EP displays deep groove tracks and stompers associated with razor sharp stabs and dreamy atmosphere.

Q3: What was the first thing that attracted you to the world of electronic music?

Well, the thing that attracted us into this scene is different for each one of us. For some it’s more the Djing side of things, for others it’s more the production side. But I’d say that we all discovered it and developed it within the style of House music and Club events. That’s what brought us together in the first place, as we actually met in a Club for the first time!

Q4: Who are your greatest influences? (Please provide 3x Youtube or Soundcloud links with some words about each)

I’d say our influences are leaning toward 90s and early 2000s electro-house, tech-house, break and acid, with strong classic house roots.

Here are some tracks we are really enjoying these days :

Latent

This track represents exactly the kind vibe i’m looking for these days. A real funky house/disco groove with some surprising electro synths & stabs and percussive vocal samples kind of micro sampled. Giving the track an overall deep after hour atmosphere that would definitely turn the dancefloor up, in a smooth way!

Brookly Baby

I just discovered this artist J Wax and I love what he does, especially this track.

It starts off with a melancholic pad and an old school breakbeat. Then at the middle of the track the vibes change completely and a nasty bass comes in.

I love the transition between the two moods, a perfect tool for the dancefloor.

Shortcut

I discovered this EP recently while digging on soundcloud. I really love A1 with his hypnotic bass and punchy drums. It’s the kind of track that I’m looking for perfect to keep the energy during a set

Q5: How would you define your sound?

The label’s signature sound can be defined by its retro-futuristic and rave aesthetic. Inspired by 90s and early 2000s electro-house, tech-house and breaks sound, creating an hybrid style with funky and gritty electro basses, robotic vocoders, spooky or cosmic synths, vinyl samples and broken driving grooves.

Q6: How has your sound evolved so far?

The sound of the label has been evolving since we all met, at the beginning, practically 2 years ago, it was mostly focused on 90’s House and Garage, the sound that brought us together. Right now, our sound is evolving to something more hybrid and underground, close to 90’s / 2000’s Electro House / Tech-house and Break, associated with the diggers scene of Paris.

Q7: What is the scene like in Paris at the moment?

The scene in Paris is always buzzin’, it doesn’t matter what genre of music you’re into, there’s always a party that will satisfy your needs!

The Parisian scene is also a good place for newcomers (like us) to organize parties, meet people from other collectives and grow your project. As you can always exchange with other Djs and people from the industry when you go clubbing and everybody is quite open minded.

Q8: What else can we expect from you over the next year?

For the next year we have several projects : We started working on our second release with a second Various Artist on vinyl. After releasing the first one as a tribute to our musical roots, we are taking the direction of the true Outdom sound, more electronic and ravy, with break grooves, deep cosmic synths and vocoders. OTD002 is expected in June 2023!

On the event side, we are throwing our very first Rex Club event on the 22nd of March. It’s definitely a very big step for us, as this is the most emblematic club for the electronic scene in Paris. We also have several events planned in other venues such as Le Petit Bain, La Rotonde Stalingrad, La Java, and for the people outside of Paris, we are playing in Nantes the 11th of March and in Lyon this summer. Can’t wait for next events!

This year will definitely be busy and represent a big step up for us.
