MORE FRESH FACES

 Interview with Goom Gum

Hello Goom Gum, great to have you with us on the Fresh Faces mix series! We’re pleased to be welcoming you around the release of your collaboration with Pete Tong, the ‘Signal EP’ on Renaissance Recordings, congrats! What can you tell us about the EP?

Hi all, thanks for the congratulations! It was a great honour for us to work with the legend, the godfather of electronic dance music. This is a big event in our career. This track was written back in 2019, but has been waiting to be released. Pandemic was not the best time to release it.

What was it like working with Pete Tong on this release?

Pete Tong is open to new ideas and artists. That’s what happened to us, too. We invited Pete Tong to work together and showed him the demos we started working on. He was hooked on the idea of the “Signal” demo. Pete Tong suggested making two versions of the track – one more electronic (the original) and the other softer, more ethnic (Tulum version). He invited percussionist Marc El Khoury to work on the track, with whom they recorded the drums.

The EP features some brilliant remixes courtesy of Anja Schneider and Bora Uzer. What were your reactions when you heard the remixes?

These are unusual remixes for us. We would never have seen this track ourselves the way Anja Schneider and Bora Uzer did. But we guess that’s the point of remixes. It’s good that the listener has an opportunity to choose the sound that he or she likes the most without losing the main line.

Thanks for the great mix you’ve done for us! What can we expect from the mix?

We’ve included our own tracks and those of our friends in the mix.  This is 100% Goom Gum mood – bright sound and positive vibes.

What’s the perfect setting to listen to the mix?

It’s perfect to include this at a party – at home, by the pool, on the rooftop, anywhere. Our music makes you want to dance. You can’t lie down or sit to it! Our mix is energizing =)

Can you give us a quick summary of artists / genres that have influenced you most in your life?

We listened and continue to listen to those who were at the peak of their careers in our childhood and youth – The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Depeche Mode, Fatboy Slim, Faithless, Massive Attack. These artists are mostly from the 90s, but they still sound very relevant. At our gigs we can even play their tracks in their original versions. This turns on the dancefloor and us!

Is there anything else lined up from yourself that you’d like to share with us?

2021 will be a year of collabs for us. We start with the collab with Pete Tong, but there will be many more releases with our friends Rafael Cerato, Stylo, Mozaik, Helsloot, Niki4 and others. These tracks can already be heard at our gigs, but very soon the whole world will hear them.

Turn it up & enjoy!
