Da Capo is a master of afro house who was recognised as such by the DJ Awards Ibiza who named him Best Afro House DJ 2019. Now his new EP on Genesis Entity is another sizzling seven track number that shows off his skills.
Da Capo’s real name is Nicodimus Sekheta Mogashoa, born and raised in Seshego, Limpopo. All his sound is well influenced by those facts and it shows from the off. Thin Cali Cloud is warm, summery house with nice lush melodies. Moyo Wangu is more zoned out, with spiritual pads and nice instrumentals that really take you on a trip.
Sweet Dreams gets deep, hypnotises you with its lush grooves and nice warm pads. Yehla Moya (Da Capo & Nduduzo Makhathini Remix) is more driven and late night thanks to the edgy chord stabs, but gentle keys and nice vocals keep things human. Dance Away the Pain is another late night groover with real drive in the drums and plenty of emotive vibes in the tender vocals, while Orion’s Belt is a lush harmonic exploration with subtle and soft acid. Ujir closes out with trance inducing keys and loose percussion.
All in all this is a warm, richly detailed and well produced album once more from this fine talent.
