In just over 2 years, AIKON has firmly established his credentials as one of the hottest talents coming through the ranks with an edgy style that blurs the lines between Indie, Afro, Electronica and MH&T with cohesive ease. Little wonder he’s already picked-up support from the likes of Solomun, Dixon, Âme, Keinemusik and John Digweed (to name but a few) and appeared on Diynamic, Exploited, Multinotes, Monaberry, Disco Halal and more. Simply put, he’s defied the pandemic with meteoric results.
Most recently, the Ukrainian artist made a welcomed debut on the iconic UK imprint Renaissance Records, arriving with his Legends EP, with four standout originals along with a remix from Copenhagen’s Radeckt. To mark the release of the Legends EP, we invited AIKON to pick out 10 of his favourite tracks right now, enjoy!
1. Fideles – No Human Interaction [Impressum]
I like this track for its soulful melody, rhythmic groove and the distorted main synth is a very cool idea. Perfect track for the morning.
2. Trikk – Devila [Innervisions]
This track is in my opinion a masterpiece… no further comment needed. I think this track can be appreciated by any listener with any musical preferences.
3. Bicep – Just [Aus]
I’m a big fan of broken rhythms, so for me this track is the standard of the perfect break beat that will 100% work on the dance floor. Combined with an analog synth melody, it is a hit.
4. Aikon – Legends [Renaissance]
A track in which I combined two different directions of a broken beat with oriental vocals, plus a daring Moog melody that resulted in a sound perfect for big dancefloors.
5. &ME – The Rapture Pt.II [Keinemusik]
One of my favourite tracks, every time I listen to this song I go on a new journey. This is such a beautiful track that is certain to give goosebumps when listening. The perfect blend of Afro groove and piano.
6. Aikon – Folk [Diynamic]
With this track I experimented with the same style of broken rhythm but this time mixed with a guitar and the same analog Moog synth. To complete the picture, I added an acid synth, and of course, the melody that sticks in your head.
7. Andre Lodemann – Still Searching feat. Nathalie Claude [Siamese]
A very groovy track with beautiful vocals. Percussion performed at the highest level. Magical composition. I like to play it in the morning.
8. Jimi Jules – BAD (Böser Als Du) [Innervisions]
Firstly, this track makes fire on the dance floor, and secondly, it sounds very specific, unusual, new and powerful. The bassline is a masterpiece. I’m a worshiper of Jimi Jules, this guy makes first-class music.
9. Musumeci – Pawn Storm [Innervisions]
Track from the category of ‘music for the ages’. Very harmonious combination of chords and melodies. You can listen endlessly.
10. Toto Chiavetta – Automation [Borders Of Light]
It’s just demolishing the roof on the dance floor. Toto plays very cool with the arpeggiator in this track, which makes the track not boring and very danceable.
