Contributing WriterParanormal unveils the label’s first-ever VA compilation ‘Triptych Vol. 1’, bringing together three carefully selected cuts from Notre Dame, Kaytek, and Møsard, releasing June 26th. With ‘Triptych’, Paranormal explores the idea of music as a collection of art, sound, visuals, and storytelling that merge into one cohesive project. The compilation brings together three tracks, three moods, and three artistic perspectives, connected through a shared universe. Volume 1 is the beginning of an ongoing series designed to showcase distinct artists and sonic identities under a single artistic concept.
1. Hey Kaytek, thank you for sitting down with us today. How have you been?
I’ve been good. Just got back from a gig at Scorpios Mykonos, now I’m in Dubai for my weekly party at SurfClub Indoor, Hide Together. After that, I head to the North Coast to open the season playing alongside Artbat.
2. Your track ‘Act Right’ is being released on the ‘Triptych Vol. 1’ VA alongside Notre Dame and Møsard. Can you tell us how this came about?
I’d had the track for a while and didn’t really send it to many artists, just a few friends. Notre Dame happened to be one of them, and he’s been tagging me in all his stories playing it everywhere. He’d just launched his label too, so all the stars aligned.
3. When producing a track, do you tend to follow the same structure every time, or does each track bring a new workflow? Do you feel either one is better than the other?
It depends on the trend and the mood. I always keep my identity, but I think you’ve got to keep an eye on what’s happening around you. So no, I don’t follow the same structure every time.
4. You run an event series called KayteK+friends. Can you tell us about these events? Who are some of your favourite DJs you’ve platformed at these parties?
As you know, Dubai’s a competitive city, full of headline DJs playing every week, so I decided to start my own party focused on the local talent who’ve kind of been forgotten about, and to give up-and-coming artists a chance to headline. It was mainly for the community. A lot of work went into it, and I can say it’s pretty solid and successful now.
5. You’ve been in the music scene for years. Have you found that your music production has changed over the years due to music trends and growing crowds?
I’ve been playing music for more than two decades now, but I’ve always had a lot of things going on the side, so I never really focused much on releasing. I used to just love playing. I made edits, but not many full tracks. That’s been changing lately.
6. You’ve performed across the world alongside some huge DJs. What are some of your favourite places to perform?
The best club for me was Pacha Ibiza. I got invited by Blond:ish for the Abracadabra showcase, which was special. But honestly, Beirut is up there as one of my favourite places to play. The nightlife scene there is one of the best in the world, and for me, the crowd is just unmatched.
