Connection Recordings’ founder and label head, Declan Canning, steps up again to supply his broad stroking house music imprint with another solid four-track EP. The Dubliner’s 20 year DJ and promoting career has seen him play alongside some of the worlds best selectors, such as Stacey Pullen, Claude Young, Charles Webster, DJ Skull, Ralph Lawson.
Opening the EP is ‘Boom Boom’, a track that combines bouncing bass, scuttling filtered hats and two hypnotic vocal motifs. A pumping, energy raising track perfect for the terrace.
Declan offers up a Piano Remix of ‘Boom Boom’ for a positively hands-in-the-air revision of the original.
The EP titled track, ‘Too High’, provides a US garage flavour; deep, organ chords skate across the understated bass rhythm, and give some true soul that set up some archytypal house vox stabs to sew it all together for a track that’s both dreamy and pumping. Delightful stuff!
Finishing off the EP we have the Old School Remix of ‘Too High’, a mix of Detroit-like looping chords atop an unrelenting bass pulse and rugged, simplified drum arrangement, and counteracts the previous three bright and groove-laden cuts brilliantly.
