San Diego duo, Paul Najera & Jr. Quijada, drop big tune on DJ Heather’s Apollo Music Group label out May 26th.

The San Diego based Late Night Jackin’ duo is in full effect here with their debut release on the Apollo imprint. Wasting no time at all, they are bringing the high heat on “The Whip It Song”. This track feels reminiscent of the Relief Records sound from the early 1990’s with a chunky beat under a quirky and catchy analog riff.

Up next is “Something Dubby”, which is every beat nerd’s dream. It’s exactly as the title suggests, but loaded with just the right accents to give you the option of dropping this any time during a set. The beat rolls with a strong dark bounce and is topped off with the perfect snare fill as it builds. A great stand alone track or perfect for layering with accapellas.

Moving on, we have the title track “Can You Hear It” which is a dark, bouncy analog joint, layered with vocal snippets. This cut gives out a certain Mr. Fingers feel and just might blow the box with this bassline if you can’t keep it in the yellow.

Rounding out the release we have the MFF head honcho Justin Harris on remix duty for “The Whip It Song”. Harris does his thing here by keeping all the right elements and adding some classic drum programming and keys to tie in the mix. A great balance to the original and a perfect addition to this release.

Overall a seamless blend of old versus new sound and a definite must have for any old Relief Record heads.
