New to the fold, rising French producer Georges brings his organic, smooth swing science to Boogie Angst. The luscious funk and disco sounds of the ‘Sights EP’ follows on from his remix of Kraak & Smaak’s super smooth ‘Naked’ earlier in the year. Georges now presents his debut four-tracker on the Dutch label.
As a lushly positive retribution to your good deeds, syncopated jazz-funk opener ‘Karma’ lays down a gleeful blend of honey-dripping piano stabs, abstract vocals and Blaxploitation style slap bass. A slo-running laid-back churner that knows how to bite when its needed! Moving from a smokey bop kind of ambience to straight out sparkling disco anthem, ‘Back To FM’ has you surfing choppy whorls of rip-roaring trumpets, mangled vox and bass-heavy onslaughts from below.
Interview With Georges
Can you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi I’m Georges and I make electronic music!
Describe the style of music that you are into and that you make?
I’m a big Jazz lover but I also love everything from Rock to Hip Hop and without saying I couldn’t live without House. The music I make comes from what I listen, so it is a blend of different styles but mostly House and Funky stuff.
Who are the artists that inspire you ?
Great figures of music like Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock or Quincy Jones inspire me a lot. I have massive admiration for French Touch artists like Daft Punk, Cassius, Saint Germain or newer ones like Justice, FKJ or Myd.
Your hot tip other exciting artists right now?
I’m a huge fan of the new wave of funk that’s taking place in the US right now, especially Vulfpeck, Louis Cole, Anderson .Paak, or in a more soulful vibe- Thundercat. I also love jazzy house too and just discovered Makez, a Dutch duo that released a killer EP for Heist Recordings. And at last a fresh one that just released his album on Boogie Angst -Moods. Very cool jazzy hop vibe.
What do you think are the ingredients of a great record?
I think the best thing for a record is it to be timeless, great instruments and coming from the heart.
Your new EP ‘ Sights’ on Boogies Angst is for lovers
Jazzy House, French House and fans of Stee Downes.
What are you next ambitions as an artist?
Next big steps will be to do my first album and then to work with a live band on stage. I’d love that!
Where is the best place to listen to this new EP and what should we be drinking?
I think the best place would be on your couch drinking a good glass of wine. But it can also work on the dance floor with a gin & tonic
What club should we go to if we visit your home town?
My favourite club in Paris is the Djoon. Amazing place to listen to great music. If you love soulful house and hard wood floors, you’ll definitely need to go there when you’re in Paris!
Where will you be playing soon?
I am working on a new live set, first show will be in Paris in December if everything goes right
