BRVNOV is the new project by Bruno Vieira, a multi-instrumentalist from Pernambuco, Brazil, formerly known as Bruno V. Under his previous moniker, Vieira played festivals around the globe, including Tomorrowland Brasil, Creamfields, and more. BRVNOV’s latest release ‘Bloom’ just landed on DOC Records. Here we take a look at his influences, production techniques, and dive into what the future holds…
Hi BRVNOV, welcome to Music Is 4 Lovers! How are things?
Hi guys, thanks for the opportunity. Things are good, pretty intense though.
After such a diverse career trajectory, including a break from the industry, what inspired you to return to music production and launch BRVNOV?
Returning to Brazil after a decade abroad and reconnecting with the strong scene here, and all the friends, musicians, and business partners ignited the flame again. Seeing from a perspective, “distance was a long-range filter” (like Rush famously wrote), and I feel ready and happy to be back.
How has your background in Pernambuco influenced the music you create today under BRVNOV compared to your earlier projects during your DuoProp era?
Pernambuco and northeast Brazil are the birthplace of a lot of incredible music in Brazil. Being exposed to this scene has always influenced me not only as a guitar player but also as a DJ/ Producer. The Duoprop Sound was more big room/ mainstream pop-oriented. We felt great doing that, and we got strong support. But with BRVNOV, I came almost back to basics. This area of Brazil incorporates a lot of Afro rhythms and sounds to create new world sounds and technologies, creating unique artists in an open environment. I have this mindset back when producing. I want to play my tracks. I want to dance to them as well!
Your latest release ‘Bloom’ just landed on DOC Records. What was your creative process behind this track?
It all started with the Piano chords, and I started to create from there. I tried to translate this blend with percussive beats in a progressive house feeling, which was my sound back in the day, and I was happy to find “my sound” again in Bloom. This track means a lot to me.
As a multi-instrumentalist, how do you approach blending acoustic elements like guitar with electronic music production?
Actually, approach this blend with care.. Musicians have a slight tendency to use too much of their instruments and melodies in compositions, and this can backfire, with the works becoming too melodic and even complicated. Dance floor-oriented tracks need a certain level of objectiveness and simplification to create the right groove and ambience. I’ve felt this in the past and felt it back again. Thank god I remembered at the time.
With a history of performing at iconic festivals like Creamfields and Tomorrowland Brasil, What’s been your favourite festival to perform at?
Tomorrowland is undeniably an unforgettable experience, but by far, the best festival I played was Skol Beats in Brazil, twice being 2005 nominated as the biggest in the world in 2005. The Infra, lineup, setting and, most importantly, the crowd were unforgettable.
Your current project emphasises collaboration with diverse musicians. What’s your vision for these collaborations, and can we expect any upcoming projects featuring other artists?
I love to collaborate. Just like love, sharing music feels much better than enjoying it alone. Being friends with great musicians makes this experience natural for me. Collaborating with Gui Boratto on Bloom was just the beginning.. my new album, “Nomad”, to be released in 2025, has collabs in every track.
What’s next for BRVNOV? Do you have plans to perform live, release an album, or dive into other creative ventures in the near future?
As I mentioned above, Bloom is the beginning track of the new Odyssey. We have already scheduled the release of an EP for January, a single in March, and my new album for May. It’s all done and ready to go, and I feel great about it. Playing live will walk together with the releases. I feel like i am 28 again!
