Berlin-based composer, producer and multidisciplinary artist Lang Father opens a new chapter with I (Junkyard Dog), a two-track EP arriving via WeLoFi.
Featuring the title track alongside Runnin’, the release marks his second outing on the label, following 2024’s The Substance EP, drawing together influences that have sat beneath the surface of his work for years, tracing a line between hip hop, film composition and the deep, soulful strains of underground house.
Best known for work spanning artist collaborations, composition and scoring, including projects with Timbaland and a publishing relationship with Sony, Lang Father has always approached music from the perspective of a composer rather than a genre specialist. House music has been part of that picture for a long time, shaped by the influence of artists such as Moodymann and Theo Parrish, before eventually finding its own outlet through these two recordings.
Built from dusty drum programming, warm low-end, hypnotic vocal fragments and finely balanced arrangements, I (Junkyard Dog) and Runnin’ favour subtle movement over obvious pay-offs. There is a confidence in allowing ideas to develop at their own pace, producing two records that feel equally at home on discerning dancefloors and through a pair of headphones long after the night has ended.
The EP first circulated among friends within Berlin’s electronic music community, where the response was immediate and overwhelmingly positive, encouraging Lang Father to bring the project into the open. Rather than existing as a detour from his wider work, the release offers another perspective on the same creative instincts that have shaped his output across composition, production and collaboration.
The EP arrives on Welofi. Founded in 2016, Welofi is a record label and creative community dedicated to supporting emerging artists. Today, it continues to champion forward-thinking electronic music while nurturing the next generation of talent.
With further house releases already taking shape alongside forthcoming soundtrack work and a full-length instrumental hip hop album, I (Junkyard Dog) marks the latest step in an expanding body of work defined by curiosity, craft and a willingness to let ideas determine their own destination.
