Kevin Knapp and Andreas Henneberg have released their new collaborative single ‘Funky Enough’, out now via Dirtybird Records.
A charismatic house cut that carries the globally inspired sound befitting Dirtybird’s catalog, ‘Funky Enough’ captures the spirit of Berlin’s unique brand of house music. Written while the pair were simultaneously based in Berlin, ‘Funky Enough’ is groovy arrangement of scattered percussion, syncopated melodies, and voluptuous basslines. Topped off with Knapp’s enticing vocal commands, ‘Funky Enough’ zigs and zags with a magnetic energy that’s destined for the dancefloor. The product of a ten-year friendship between Knapp and Henneberg, ‘Funky Enough’ is the culmination of Knapp’s decades-long stint in Berlin, aligning with the nostalgic notes of Dirtybird’s 2023 catalog.
Kevin Knapp recalled, “This was the last record I worked on before moving out of Berlin. Andreas and I met each other early in the almost 10 years I spent there and as my time there grew, so did our friendship. I knew we just had to make a track together before I officially moved back to the USA.”
Andreas Henneberg added, “Kevin and I used to play board games, make food and drink great wines when he lived here in Berlin. We spent hours talking about music, traveling, the industry, and how to deal with the nightlife and their creatures, but never went to the studio and made music together. Unbelievably, this is the first track we made in so many years of friendship.”
Kevin Knapp has garnered a reputation for his flavorful house stylings as a producer, vocalist, DJ, and label head. In addition to releases on Cuttin Headz, Repopulate Mars, Crosstown Rebels, Desert Hearts Records, Hot Creations, and his own Plump Recordings, Knapp is a familiar face on Dirtybird’s catalog and lineup. Last year, Knapp returned to the label with ‘Dope Kid Central’ as part of the 2022 Campout Compilation, performing at the festival as well.
Andres Henneberg is a minimal techno and house producer, label owner, master-engineer and DJ born and bred in Berlin. He previously appeared on Dirtybird’s Birdfeed sub-label with ‘Slap Clap’, which was featured on the first edition of the Best of the Birdfeed compilation series. His collaboration with Dirtybird mainstay Kevin Knapp provides a full circle moment with Henneberg rising up to the main label ranks.
