We sit down with melodic techno DJ & producer Against All Ødds currently making waves with his recent release ‘Agartha’ on Zerothree. We find out more about the man behind the music, his sound, inspirations and more…

Hi, thanks for speaking with us. Ho?

Good, thanks for having me!

Let’s jump straight in. Where did you get the name? What’s the story behind ‘Against All Ødds’?

I was searching for a fitting name for this new project, and I came across a book title on Amazon that really resonated with what I was aiming for. After years of working as a ghost producer, it’s finally me stepping forward, going “against” everyone else. I haven’t actually read the book yet (laughs).

Describe your sound in three word.

Emotional, deep, powerful.

What’s the scene in Tel Aviv like? Has it changed much since you were younger?

I feel like the scene is really growing here. More people are discovering this music, and clubs are excited to play it. We’re seeing more international artists coming through, and our own artists are gaining influence globally. Even in smaller, more traditional events, you hear electronic music now—something that wasn’t the case when I was growing up. It’s amazing to see this shift and the new musical direction taking shape in the country.

And your musical journey? Please tell us the story of how you came to land on electronic music?

I used to visit my cousin often, and he would play me unreleased tracks he’d found through less-than-legal channels online. Those tracks really influenced me. I felt a deep connection to them, like they were part of my DNA. By the time I was 13, I decided to start making my own music, and believe it or not, by 16, I was already producing tracks for some of Israel’s biggest artists.

Who were your biggest inspirations?

James Holden, Marshel Jefferson, Gabriel & Dresden, Tiesto.

What has been your favourite gig or venue to play?

Cielo NYC was one of my first gigs ever and remains one of the most memorable. It was a fantastic club with an incredible sound system!

What would be your dream gig to play?

A State of Trance festival and show! Armin van Buuren has been such an inspiration to me over the years, and being part of it would be incredible. He’s already played two of my tracks on his radio show this year, which felt like an amazing accomplishment..

What do you do to relax outside of the studio or DJ booth?

I love walking my dog, Bruno! He’s small, spoiled, and the perfect companion. I enjoy coming up with new ideas while I’m outside with him..

What was the last record that blew your mind?

CAMELPHAT & London Grammar – Higher

We see you have a release on Zerothreee! How did you come to link up with those guys?

I’ve always liked this label—they consistently put out great releases, and working with them is smooth and highly professional. I’d released with them before, and after I made Unity with Like Mike and Silver Panda, Jamie, the A&R guy, emailed me asking for something in a similar style. The rest is history!

What have you got coming that we can look forward to?

I have a new release coming out in November: *Against All Ødds & Avaddon – Holding On* via Be Free Recordings. Plus, my new live set airs on October 30th—a special rooftop mix featuring some IDs, fresh releases, and the best tracks I’ve come across recently. Be sure to tune in
