INTERVIEW: VICTOR RUIZ TALKS U.S. DATES, NEW MUSIC, AND 2024 PLANS

 

I feel the US scene at the moment is quite fresh and open, with so much musical diversity, whereas Europe these days is quite focused on hard techno. We saw an interstellar jump throughout the pandemic in the US and the aftermath has been quite surprising for me and all my colleagues. Right now it’s my favourite region to play – together with South America. I find the crowd super open and interactive with the sounds and every time I bring some new sounds, they are very welcoming to that. Exciting times!

 

Oh, so much music I’ve been making and releasing, so lots of new stuff from yours truly. Been doing some cool collabs with techno legends such as Alex Stein and Wehbba, and also with psytrance giants such as Waio and Freedom Fighters, plus a remix for Liquid Soul. I guess coming back to my psy origins. It’s a very exciting time for electronic music in my opinion, I feel freer than ever in the studio, crossing musical genres and styles. Also will be playing lots of new releases from my label VOLTA, as you mentioned, from artists such Mila Journeé, Deus Deserto, Giulia, Nico Cabeza, Nicolas Taboada, TimiR, Martin Kinrus and many other new talents. That’s quite the focus we’re having on the label, these names might not ring a bell, go look into them, these are amazing producers!

 

I’ll be doing a round for end of the year in the US, starting in Chicago at Spybar on the 29^th, then Grand Quai in Montreal the day after, for new year’s I can’t announce just yet and for the 1^st of January 2024 I’ll be back at the beloved Halcyon in San Francisco. Super excited!!! As for resolutions, definitely praying for a better world with peace and compassion. Having this is paramount. Personally and professionally to play at big events and to spread my music all around, that VOLTA becomes more successful so we can help more people (10% of our profits go to charities and causes chosen by our artists), and we’re doing many VOLTA events, so stay tuned!
