Brighton talent KeeQ made his debut outing on Junior Jack’s Adesso Music imprint last month, we caught up with him to discuss the release and his plans for the rest of the year.
Hey Kieran, great to have you with us today! How did you get into the music scene and music production?
I started in the music scene around 2001, beginning by DJing in local bars. From there I started to find my sound, and it then seemed natural to go onto music production. After a ten year hiatus, I am back with the new KeeQ sound.
How has your music style evolved since your debut release?
I would like to think my KeeQ releases have been responsibly consistent since my first release in January 2022. I do like to bounce between the raw house and organic/afro sounds. However, I like to infuse them too.
Congratulations on your latest single on Adesso Music, what was the inspiration behind it?
The inspiration comes from a number of producers I hold in high regard, such as Nic Fancuilli, Mele, and Nick Curly. So, it is an honour to have Nick Curly remix the track.
During the production process are you thinking about the setting, clubs and dancers or do you just let it flow?
I always think about trying to find a hook of some sort to build around to keep interesting on the dancefloor. I have had a few thoughts recently to incorporate more featured vocals in my tracks to build around, which I have included previously, but moving forward I am going to approach most projects with featured vocals, and build for dancefloors and listenerships.
What is your favourite venue or festival you have played, and why?
On The Beach festival in Brighton. It is my hometown, it greats to be on the pebbles, and also play alongside some of my heros.
Thanks so much for joining us today, Kieran! Lastly, what can we expect from KeeQ for the rest of 2023?
My pleasure, thank you for having me. For the rest of the year I have collabs with both Blond:ish, and Danny Serrano, released on Circus Recordings, and a few other yet to be announced labels. I am also excited by my own label and club night that will be launched a little later in the year.
