Naples-born talent Amedeo Picone draws on the 90s sounds of his youth to influence his own take on tech, house and minimal, which has helped him become a European mainstay. We caught up with Amedeo to chat about the launch of his new label, his roots and more.

Hey Amedeo, welcome to Music is 4 Lovers! How has your 2023 been for you so far?

Hi there, it’s a pleasure to be here with you, thanks for having me. 2023 started great, full of shows around Europe and for the first time, I also performed in Dubai with elrow, where our sector seems to be growing continuously!

We heard your musical roots go way back. How and why did you get into playing and producing music?

My dad was a DJ in the 90’s and early 00’s. I grew up watching him spin vinyl and listening to his music. He always tells me that from the first months of my life, my mum took me with her to dad’s DJ sets, and at this point, I think everything influenced me a lot. Then, over the years, I felt the need to select and create music for myself and the people because I realized that music is the only way I love to express myself, my life and my emotions.

How has your sound evolved since then?

My sound is constantly evolving, I believe that any artist evolves every day that passes; the secret is then to make sure to best express all this. I went from funky to house/tribal house and from tech house to techno, and my sound is still today a mix of all these. I really like to combine various genres to create something fresh and unique!

You have just launched your new label Peak One Records with a new single ‘Hear Me’. What was the inspiration behind this?

I opened my own label because I felt the need to have my sound heard at 360 degrees, to have no constraints. As I said, I like to combine genres, I like to mix old sounds with new sounds, and indeed with my first single, “Hear Me”, there are all these influences.

What are the challenges of launching a brand new label? What advice would you give to others out there looking to launch their own label?

The real challenge is to create a label that represents you 100%, nothing more. Your label is like your son, so as a good father, you have to direct it in the way that seems right to you according to your opinion and your tastes. Nowadays, technically speaking, thanks to the many distributors and label managers on the web, it has become really easy to open your own label, so I don’t feel like giving any technical advice about it. The advice I give is simply to be yourself, not to compromise musically in any way and just be able to create a label that represents you in the best possible way. Then you’re ready to launch it!

What do you hope to achieve with the label in the coming years?

What I want to achieve with the label, first and foremost, is to give people good music and definitely tracks they won’t hear anywhere else. For the first year, I will only release my own music to give it a musical identity, and then I will open it up to other artists. From that moment, the goal will be to create a community of artists where the only rule is to express themselves 100% and, why not, maybe create an ad hoc party to bring the sound of the label around!

You’re a resident for Elrow, what have been some of the highlights of playing their parties?

elrow is my family, I owe them a lot personally and professionally. Playing with them is something unique and always fun, you will never find anywhere else what you find at one of their parties. The audience is always very warm, then you have so much fun with the various actors that are around and with Rowgelia, and then the surrounding environment they create is fantastic, they are the best in the world.

Thank you so much for joining us today, it’s been a pleasure! Lastly, what do you have in store for the rest of 2023?

For 2023 expect lots of music and lots of gigs around Europe. I can’t reveal much, but trust me, it will be fun!! Thanks again for having me 🙂
