Today, we share the new single and music video from talented Belgian-born producer and multi-instrumentalist blush – entitled ‘Reckless’.

blush is the alias of Daan Schepers, who started the project during last year’s enforced lockdown. So far, he has released two singles – debut track “Maybe” and sophomore single “Lovers” – both showcasing his penchant for creating melancholic and honest songs balanced in between the electronic and the organic world. Daan also works as a producer, working with the likes of Aluna (AlunaGeorge), Bazart, Warhola, J Lloyd, and its clear to see through his solo discography his talent in this department.

Hi blush! Thanks for taking the time to speak with us. What have you been up to since the start of the year?

You’re welcome! Well, in a normal scenario I’d spend half of my time live touring with different kind of projects and the other half producing for other artists in my studio. However, in this current situation my focus has shifted to producing and writing only. In 2020 I used all of the extra time that suddenly became available to kick off my own personal project, and in 2021 I completed my third track, ‘Reckless’. Weird but exciting times!

Can you tell us a little about your new single ‘Reckless’?

My first two tracks were created very spontaneously during the first lockdown in Spring 2020. Similarly, ‘Reckless’ is an intuitive result of staying in and dealing with social isolation during the second Belgium lockdown a few months after. It was written in a relatively short period, without any overthinking or marketing plan; it almost feels like an outpouring of my creativity to me.

What does the song mean to you personally?

‘Reckless’ is about hope in times of loneliness and about the urge to break barriers. However, I love the idea of people finding their own truth in a song because in the end, that’s what it’s all about!

We at M4L specialise in electronic/dance music, can you name a few artists in this field you like?

In my productions I try to find the balance between organic and electronic elements, and I always feel very inspired by artists that explore this fine line as well. Think of Caribou, Jai Paul, James Blake, Frank Ocean and Bon Iver, for example.

Thanks for your time! What can we expect from blush in 2021?

Well, the fun thing about this project is that it started off so spontaneously, and I’d like to keep it that way — that means no expectations or pressure at all. However, this past year has taught me to take more time off in order to create music of my own. So in the future I’d like to finish an EP that captures this bizarre period in all of our lives

‘Reckless’ is the Belgian’s first offering of 2021, so we caught up with him to chat about the track, his favourite artists in the dance/electronic world and what else we can expect from him in 2021.
