Sampling Chicago house icon Paul Johnson’s 1998 ‘So Much’, ‘Sex & The City’ oozes with the old-school rhythms and new-school flow that have bonded HoneyLuv and Seth Troxler. First teased with MK’s remix, ‘Sex & The City’ is a seductive blend of sleek synths, deep basslines, and rhythmic percussion. Fusing generational elements of house music, ‘Sex & The City’ mixes Seth Troxler’s iconic sound with the flirtatious energy and sultry tones present throughout HoneyLuv’s catalog. An homage to Paul Johnson’s house classic, ‘Sex & The City’ encapsulates Tuskegee’s ethos of honoring the roots of dance music.

Regarding the collaboration, HoneyLuv said, “To even be in the same room with Seth is an honor but to collaborate with him on a track is a dream come true. Seth has been one of many of my inspirations during this journey of mine. This song is definitely the essence of what house music is and what the future will be and I’m so happy Seth was able to help create that with me”.

As an essential figure in the next generation of Black dance music, HoneyLuv has balanced honoring the roots of house music while bringing a fresh perspective to the scene. These qualities not only garnered a nod from some of house music’s most iconic tastemakers, but also made her the perfect artist to relaunch Tuskegee Music. Founded in 2014 by Seth Troxler and The Martinez Brothers, the label served as a platform to elevate the voices of BIPOC talent. Before its hiatus in 2019, Tuskegee Music featured artists including Omar-S, Jamal Moss, K’ Alexi Shelby, D-Knox and William Djoko, in addition to its label heads.

On the return of Tuskegee Music, Seth Troxler said, “Tuskegee was founded in 2014 when The Martinez Brothers and I realized that there was not enough representation in dance music of our communities.

Being from Detroit and NYC, two scenes that birthed this culture, and made predominantly for people of Black and Latino backgrounds; we felt it was our duty to launch a platform to inspire a new generation of minority house music musicians, and show these new artists that dance music was a possible path for them. The label also served as an outlet for the overlooked originals and legends, the foundation builders of the scene.

During the pandemic we took a hiatus. And now we felt that it was again time to relaunch the label, with a new impetus and focus on young, new and emerging artists of color and to empower the next generation.”

On the release, Paul Johnson’s Estate contributed, “Tuskegee, HoneyLuv, and Seth Troxler have been successful in planting a flag victoriously in favor of honoring house music history, legacy preservation, and the global community with this release, and the Paul Johnson Estate is grateful to be working alongside such tastemakers of artistry, musicianship, and dance music industry equity.”
