After years of DJing and producing, and brief, relaxed attempts at solo careers, Sanford Rabin and Robert Tellier decided to act. Enter: DAKAP.  Rabin and Tellier, both contributing to DAKAP independently but cohesively, were destined to collide from the beginning. The friendship they share, stemming from long before house music—let alone, DJing—was in the picture, has helped expedite the developments of the up-and-coming artists. These early, successful efforts of DAKAP demonstrate that the duo plans on making a long lasting impression on the landscape of today’s music scene.

How did you two meet?

We met when were about 13 years old. We were both living in the same building.  We also used to skate around Miami and cause ruckus.

Can you Tell us a little about your musical upbringing?

“Electronic music was not part of my life till was about 17 years old.  My parents were in the party scene in Miami and pretty much introduced me to the ‘Underground.’ I remember the first time I was interested in even learning how to DJ, my family and I were in Ecuador, where my mother is from, and my dad had a couple of gigs there. I was standing beside him watching him DJ and I found it to be very interesting.  He initially taught me the basics of mixing and never allowed me to play other genres apart from house music.” – Robert

What are your favorite traits about each other?

“Robert has a great ear and can catch my mistakes before they happen.  I can predict what he is going to do on the decks without having to communicate or worry.  Generally when we spin together we are both on the same page and exude an incomparable musical energy.” – Sandy

Do you have anything special lined up in the next few months?

We have a few upcoming releases.  The most recent upcoming one is out on Draft LTD within the next few weeks.  We also just finished 2 solid EP’s.  We’re just waiting on the remixes to be finished.  Definitely excited to share with everyone.

Who are some of your favorite producers/labels right now?

A couple favorite producers:  Sabb, Wade, Proudly People, Reelow, Yaya, David Gtronic, and Chad Andrew.

Labels:  Little Helpers, Innocent Music, Inmotion, Draft, Infuse, Upon You, Moan

What advice would you give to aspiring DJs?

Be outgoing and network!!!  Collaborate with fellow producers/DJs/musicians even if they produce or play different genres of music. Variety is always good.

Drink of choice?

Robert – Bulliet Bourbon
Sandy – Amstel Light

Can you tell us a little about this mix?

It was recorded at our home venue FDR @ Delano in Miami BEach.  We have a residency there on Friday night for the ‘Notes from the Underground’ party.  This specific mix was recorded a couple weeks ago as an opening set for Italian boss Marco Faraone.  There was an amazing energy in the room.  We only release mixes that we feel will convey the appropriate energy for the occasion.
