Paris-based Jeremy Delvila draws inspiration from funk and disco but has a special love of rare grooves from around the world. His own sounds and sets combine styles and scenes from across the decades, always with a classy edge and organic flow…

Hey Jérémy! How’s life in Paris?
Great! Between my different residencies and this new House project, I barely have time to get bored — and I’m feeling really excited about everything that’s coming up.

You’ve recently landed on Danny & Mike Parton’s newly launched Jolene Records with a fresh EP. What can listeners expect from it?
Yes! I’m so happy and truly feel lucky to be one of the first artists to sign with JOLENE! Mike and Danny are very good friends, and the launch of their label was the spark that pushed me to finally bring this project — which I’d had in mind for years — to life! It’s Something very disco, very groovy — and hopefully effective on the dancefloor! It’s a return to that early 2000s French Touch-style House, but with a modern twist.

You recently contributed a superb mix to Jolene’s mixtape series. Could you walk us through the inspiration behind it?
With this mixtape, I wanted to share the musical influences behind the project and spread the music I’ve always been passionate about: Funk, House, Disco — a lot of old-school stuff, haha! But with a few new gems in the mix too. 🙂

Your upcoming EP is packed with irresistible Disco-infused beats. Disco is one of the most sampled genres in music. What’s your take on sampling?
I love sampling — it’s an endless source of inspiration! I get why some people see it as theft or cultural “plundering,” but when it’s done well, with real respect for the original work and the artist, it’s a fantastic creative exercise.

What sets apart Paris’ music scene from the rest of Europe? Do you have any favorite venues?
We’re lucky to have a very eclectic scene here. Whether you’re into House, Techno, Hip Hop, or even more mainstream club sounds, there’s something for everyone in Paris.

Vinyl or digital mixing — and why?
It doesn’t matter what format you use, what really counts is making people dance and bringing them joy.
A great selection and smooth transitions matter more than being ultra-technical. Personally, I started out on vinyl. I still buy and play a lot of records at home, but in clubs I usually play on CDJs — except on special occasions.

As an artist inspired by Funk and Disco, could you share a few of your all-time favorite records?
Here are a few Funk and Disco records I own and keep coming back to for inspiration:
Earth, Wind & Fire – I Am
CHIC – Tongue in CHIC
Cameo – Cardiac Arrest
The Bar-Kays – Money Talks
Gino Soccio – Closer
Cerrone – Paradise
Parliament – Chocolate City
Zapp – Zapp III
Ohio Players – Everybody Up

…and so many others!

What’s next for Jérémy Delvila — both in and outside of music?
I’ve got a few potential releases lined up, but nothing I can officially talk about just yet. This project is just getting started, and I’ve got tons of ideas and things I want to explore. I’m launching a monthly podcast called BUCKET HAT on LINE OUT radio, featuring a one-hour groove-heavy mix where I’ll also invite DJs I admire. There are many projects floating around — hopefully they’ll become reality very soon!
