Cave Studio are an Italian duo that are ever more making an impression on the house music circuit. Their “Shake The Dice” track in 2021 exploded them into their limelight, and they have now released a remix package that features SUBSHIFT, Heider, & PEACE MAKER!. We asked them to list their 10 favourite remixes ever and their reasons why. Some awesome tracks here…

1. Marshall Jefferson – Move Your Body (Tchami Tribute Remix)

The Tchami remix of Marshall Jefferson’s “Move Your Body” from 1986 captivated us in 2014, sparking our love for his productions and the entire music genre that followed. Tchami’s artistry as a house music producer shines through as he revitalizes the original vocals, making it both current and timeless once again.

2. Wildchild – Renegade Master (Friend Within Refix)

Initially introduced as a refix in 2013, “Renegade Master” by Friend Within breathed new life into Wildchild’s iconic 1995 house music hit. Friend Within infuses the track with a fresh bassline groove and an engaging drum rhythm, seamlessly blending the main vocal with the new elements. It’s a revived classic that resonates perfectly with the present era.

3. Dombresky – Utopia (4B Remix)

Dombresky’s “Utopia” caught our attention as we delved into the emerging music scene and the genre it spawned, particularly with the rise of Tchami’s record label, “Confession”. This version marked our foray into bass house. At first glance, the two tracks may seem identical, as the original already possessed a dark ambiance with its fat basslines and chopped vocal loop in the drop. However, 4B manages to enhance the bassline by incorporating drum and bass elements, completely disrupting the traditional 4/4 rhythm.

4. AC Slater, Chris Lorenzo – Fly Kicks (Wax Motif Remix)

Wax Motif’s remix of “Fly Kicks” by AC Slater and Chris Lorenzo showcases exceptional bass house craftsmanship. The initial drum and kick rhythm carries shades of contemporary tech house, which has always intrigued us about this version. The break creates an ambient atmosphere with the classic “west coast” lead, and the main synth in the drop perfectly reflects the Night Bass style of 2017. Fun fact: one of Cave Studio’s earliest SoundCloud releases was a rework of this track, accompanied by an official video we created.

5. Bijou – Memories (Bellecour Remix)

Bellecour’s incredible vision transformed Bijou’s original “Memories” into a main stage track fit for big festivals. The remix injects a super energetic build-up, gradually introducing their unmistakable and characteristic synth through a filter, giving life to the entire drop while leaving space for the main vocal. It’s an exceptional rendition of a beautiful, almost summery, radio-friendly house music track with captivating piano chord progressions.

6. Axwell – Nobody Else (A-Trak Remix)

The names of the artists behind this track, both the original and the remix, speak for themselves. No further explanations are necessary!

7. Codes, Shoshannah – Baby (Proper Villains Remix)

What struck us in this remix is the use of the exact same bassline loop from the drop of the original, coupled with different drums and snares, resulting in a more engaging track compared to the already solid foundation of the original.

8. Sage The Gemini – Gas Pedal (Kyle Watson Remix)

Kyle Watson, (we consider him as the “bassline king”), takes the original rap/hip-hop track and uses its main sample as the vocal, creating a pure work of art. His basslines always manage to astound with their brilliance. The breaks in the remix leave room for the listener’s imagination, constantly surprising with unpredictable directions, while the looped vocals serve as buildups, leading to rhythmic and captivating drops. It’s a remix that captivates for hours on end.

9. Volac – Naughty Water (NightFunk Remix)

As producers who prioritize the groove of basslines in our own original tracks, Volac’s work has always been a source of inspiration. The overwhelming groove of the original track never fails to inspire us, and NightFunk’s remix is equally captivating. The break, where the track is momentarily stripped down, allowing the reverberated vocal with a reverse effect to take center stage before the explosive return of the bassline, creates the perfect tension to excite the listener, all achieved with minimal elements in a short span of time.

10. Julio Navas – Raw (Tony Romera Remix)

Tony Romera’s remix of “Raw” went viral, making him a household name, whether within the industry or not. The tracks share similar structure and concept, but Tony’s remix distinguishes himself through agile drums that add an extra layer of dynamism. The type of bass featured in the drop and the background vocal loop contribute to the overall completeness of the track. We’ve always been inspired by the harmonious elements that make up Tony’s version of the drop. It’s a club hit that never fails to impress.
