Spain-born, Berlin-based Carlo‘s sound is dusty and real – a swirling melange of soul, funk, jazz, and house that works in the club but has a musical depth and jazzy touch that stands up on headphones, too. He’s honed his skills over the last decade on cultured labels like Classic Music Company and Shall Not Fade, and established his own Aterral label and events. This classy new EP has a timeless charm that shows his sound continues to evolve and mature while never straying far from a catchy groove.

Opener ‘Houston Interlude’ has quietly playful chords that bubble up through swinging drums. It’s a cosy, atmospheric sound with muffled vocals and jazzy motifs that bring smiles as well as sweat. The fantastic ‘Ordinary People’ is heavier and more driving for when the lights go down, but is marbled with fluttering synths that bring light to the chuggy drums and sharp percussion. Unusual synth sounds layer in the signature Carlo charm. ‘Jungle Magic’ is a hazy cut with UK-centric spoken words and bouncy, rolling bass. It’s an upright jam with a funky heart and analogue warmth that demands big reactions. Punchy closer ‘Stop Looking’ captures the bittersweet morning hours when the vibes are high but the end is nigh. Well-sampled soul vocals and jazzy leads enrich this full-bodied, whole-hearted banger.

Carlo’s ‘Jungle Magic EP’ comes on Dreams On Wax Records on 9th April 2026.
