Kandystore arrives as the latest offering from the infectious pairing of Barbara & SpunOff, delivering a sublime cut with rich influences of the early 00’s trance and progressive era. It follows on from the well-received Trance In Vegas EP which landed earlier this year.
“With Trance in Vegas, we wanted to evoke scenes of play, letting your inner child run wild, set to the tones of old Ibiza sound. Lyrics like ‘take me to a place where I can play’ invite you into this dream tranceland. On Kandystore, we take it even further, playing on nostalgia and how eating sweets as children brought us so much joy. It’s truly tasty and magical.” – Barbara
To celebrate the magical spirit of the Kandystore, Barbara is giving away two free tickets for a pair of friends to visit the most magical place on earth: Disneyland. Fans who use Kandystore audio in their Instagram posts are eligible to win, and they can find out more by following her Instagram @barbara_sounds.
Listeners are invited into the “Kandystore” by a pumping kick, pulsing percussion, and swelling synths. The dreamy vocals of Barbara invite you to partake “in the candy in the special candy drawer” as melodic flurries, sweet chords, and spiraling arpeggios swirl around your head. It truly is a track to take you back to the heyday of vintage Balearic sounds, captivating every sense within the body as you binge on this superbly delicious dessert.
“I remember exactly when Kandystore came about. It was one of the first instrumentals that SpunOff shared with me to send back some vocal ideas on. I was in Miami for Art Basel and really inspired after meeting the street artist Whisbe and seeing his pink furry Vandal Gummy Bear. I even wore a custom candy bra top that weekend at the Circoloco party. It broke as I was dancing so hard and having so much fun so I threw it into the crowd and this guy was so happy for his souvenir! It was so amazing. I have a picture of him wearing it. So as soon as I heard the track I came up with this whole candyland world, very playful, innocent, and fun while also influenced by the sweet and sexy sounds of Miami house. And as the French love l’amour and patisseries, SpunOff was totally onboard. He loved the lyrics and agreed it would be a perfect summer treat.” – Barbara
