Serbia’s IDQ is composed of Igor Puljić-Pookie, Alex Miličević and Dragan Razić. For the last decade, they have been blending vocals, rhythm and melody on labels like Circus, ARMADA Recordings and Shen, topping digital charts and picking up support from the likes of Black Coffee, Sandy Rivera and Nick Warren. Their latest for Fiona Kraft’s vital new imprint, Non Merci Music, is another widescreen delight packed with emotion…
IDQ! Welcome to Music Is 4 Lovers, how’s life?
Hello everybody, thanks for having us here. Life is good and quite hectic at the moment, we’ve been busy with other projects during summer when it comes to production and studio work, but now we are full speed ahead on this cold Belgrade autumn.
Tell us about your upcoming single, ‘IDLE’, on Non Merci Music.
This summer, we played a show together with Fiona for Summerian’s Crew in Ibiza; she told us that they will be opening a label soon and if we have something cool, we should send it over.
The demo version of IDLE was quite more Progressive, but somehow whenever we played it, something didn’t feel right. After a while we changed the groove (several grooves in order to find the right balance) and soon enough everything was in place. We sent it to Fiona ‘cause we thought she might like it and few hours later we agreed to sign it.
You currently hail from Belgrade; what’s the Melodic House scene like over there? Are there notable venues that come to mind?
The Melodic scene in Belgrade was very strong from the beginning, especially for the past few years. Most of the big Melodic artists played either solo shows or one of two big Serbian Festivals, ‘EXIT’ and ‘Lovefest’. ‘Hangar’ in Port of Belgrade during winter and ‘Barutana’ during summer are the places where most of the big events take place in Belgrade lately.
How did IDQ come to be and what have you been able to achieve musically as a group?
More than a decade ago we met and decided to do something from scratch, only with original music and lyrics. Pookie’s experience of almost 30 years in the DJ world and Alex’s talent for composing and producing combined together were a solid ground for something fresh and interesting. That’s one of the reasons we only play Hybrid DJ sets or Live shows. Last week was the 10th anniversary of our first release.
What are your main goals for 2025? These don’t have to be related to music 🙂
Sharing good vibes and music with some new people around the globe as much as possible. Expanding our capacities to other challenging and exciting projects within our musical universe. Renovating our summer houses as places of peace and recharge.
Are there any artists you’ve had on repeat this year?
The list of people whose music we admire and play constantly is too long for this interview, but some of them for 2024, are definitely: WhoMadeWho, Dino Lenny, Made By Pete, Moat, Paige and Ivory IT.
Do you have any upcoming plans you can share with us?
We are currently working on a special Electronic music fusion of Carl Orff’s ‘Carmina Burana’. We will be performing this Live show with Serbian Symphonic Orchestra and Choir at the end of December in Belgrade. We decided to step out of our comfort zone and try something new. It takes a lot of energy and knowledge to do this right and we really hope it will be something special. Performing with more than 100 people on stage together is a proper challenge you must admit. Also, we’ve signed a couple of very cool tracks for 2025…
