Simon HuxtableThe results are in and the UK Governments extensive Events Research Program, which featured soccer and snooker events with limited crowds plus a series of clubbing events and the BRIT Awards Show has yielded positive results for the future of the events industry.
Working closely with local authorities and organisers, the science-led pilot events were run across a range of settings, venues, and activities. The program’s findings suggest a full reopening of similar settings across multiple sectors in the summer.
A Government source told The Times newspaper: “We are still waiting for the final bits of data but the results so far have been very encouraging. It will help make the case that these large events are not inherently more risky than other parts of the hospitality sector. It shows that there are things that you can do to make these settings as safe as other daily activities.”
This positive news is however shadowed by the Government’s lack of response on calls for underwriting festival insurance which has caused many large-scale events to cancel their 2021 events including Glastonbury, Camp Bestival, and Creamfields.
