This new EP from Speaking Minds is a debut release that marks the start of what will surely be a great journey for the Italian trio. It comes backed with remixes by MEXA’s Louie Fresco and former Footprintz man Clarian. The Speaking Minds project was born in 2012 from the union of 3 Italian guys with a common passion for music who have appeared on Noir Music, have remixed Superhero and have had support from the likes of Tale of Us.
Opener ‘The Lost Dramatic Arp’ shows plenty of musicality from the off. It’s filled with rippling, lush piano lines and synth chords and has gently under lapping, warm house beats lazily tumbling below in inviting fashion. More searching and skyward melody patterns unfold throughout, forever folding you deeper into the emotive world within. Louie Fresco’s remix retools the track for the dance floor, speeding up the pace and laying in some more direct and rubbery synth lines while retaining the melodic color and sense of scale of the original.
The other superb original is ‘Amnesia,’ a deep and involving house-come-techno track that is marbled with killer synth lines all treated in various ways – some are loose and liquid, some stiff and strained, but together they make for engaging listening that comes tinged with more than a hint of heavenly emotion. Clarian, who is fast making a name for himself as a solo artist, remixes this one into a tightly coiled, dark and bubbling number that lives in the shadowy underworld. Space ships appear to fly by, leaving trails in their wake, but the minimal groove is never lost and keeps pulsing from start to finish. Now that the word about Speaking Minds is out there, they are likely to go on to become one of the most successful acts of 2014.
